Facebook is looking for an Optical Operations Manager who can build and lead a team of highly skilled engineers, create and execute on a strategic vision for a network that operates at an industry leading availability in a highly automated environment.
Optical Operations Manager Responsibilities
* Build, manage and lead a global team of exceptional optical network engineers.
* Exhibit and embody the qualities of a great manager.
* Manage a complex global organization of vendors, smart hands and other third parties.
* Ensure operational best practices for a multi-vendor optical network that includes metro, long-haul and sub-sea systems.
* Develop operational processes and procedures to ensure predictable and timely fault resolution.
* Develop operational metrics and drive positive change based on data driven decisions.
* Ensure service level objectives are met for the global network as well as third party response and resolution.
* Develop automation and tooling to ensure sub-linear team growth as compared to business growth.
* Develop staffing models to ensure successful day-to-day operations as well as execution of tactical and strategic programs.
* Partner with and build high quality relationships with other Facebook teams.
* Create and develop strategies to ensure the optical network is an enabler for long term business growth.
Minimum Qualifications
* 10+ years of optical operations and management experience on large scale networks.
* 5+ years of direct people management experience.
* Knowledge and experience in DWDM platforms.
* Knowledge of Fiber-optic technology including cable types, connector types, optic types, and optical transport technologies.
* Experience in analyzing situations, troubleshooting, systems and tools, and problem solving.
* Experience with the Network Management system (NMS), Element Management system (EMS) and CLI interfaces of different optical vendor platforms.
* Documentation and communication experience.
Preferred Qualifications
* 5+ years experience managing vendors and third party smart hands.
* Experience in leading, growing and mentoring high performance teams.
* Experience creating a culture of automation first.
* Experience setting and managing to KPIs and SLOs.
* In depth experience with network analysis and thorough troubleshooting skills.
* Knowledge of third party management platforms for Layer 1 equipment.
* Knowledge of Network Operations a distinct advantage.
* Experience operating autonomously, strong analytical skills, coupled with a strong sense of ownership, urgency and drive.
