Safety Policy Manager, Health and Well-Being

Job Description

As the reach and impact of the Facebook family of companies continues to grow during a global pandemic, so does the responsibility we have to ensure the safety, health and well-being of the members of our diverse global community, particularly young people and vulnerable constituencies. Facebook's Safety Policy team is dedicated to understanding the safety, health and well-being impacts of our platform and to crafting a comprehensive approach to these issues that allows us to 1) work with experts to develop policies and build tools that support the health and well being of our global community, and 2) partner with expert organizations to develop resources to support those who may be vulnerable and create awareness of these issues. We are looking for a Safety Policy Manager with subject matter expertise to help drive our strategy in the health and well-being space, with particular focus on suicidality and self-injury (SSI), mental health, and well-being across our policies, technology, global partnerships, support resources, and through engagement with external experts and organizations who specialize in issues such as suicide, self-harm, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, addiction, loneliness, healthy habits, and more. This role will initially and largely focus on the mental health, SSI, and well-being space but may expand to include other relevant and strategic public health initiatives. This individual will be responsible for: (1) bringing subject matter expertise from both their own experience and engagement with experts and expert organizations to our product, programs, operations, and integrity work along with our product, content, and regional public policy teams efforts; (2) representing Facebook with key public health, SSI, mental health and well-being policy stakeholders in civil society, international institutions, and academic institutions; (3) driving the Safety Policy Teams investigations into certain SSI, mental health and well-being issues and abuses on our platforms, issue spot new and emerging issues, and solve problems; (4) helping craft our product, content policy, and programmatic approach to help us ensure that we continue to operate our platforms consistent with the safety, health and well-being of our community; and 5) counsel product teams to build with safety and integrity and consider the unique needs and implications around health and well-being. Global travel to support our international teams will be expected when business travel within the company resumes. The ideal candidate is a constant learner, skilled at prioritizing and problem-solving with limited oversight, well-organized, good at navigating ambiguity, expert in juggling multiple tasks/timelines at once, and passionate about this subject matter, the services we provide and the people that we serve. This person should be a strong communicator who excels at working collaboratively and effectively within highly cross functional global teams and consistently delivers high-quality work under pressure. They should have experience driving multiple projects or teams in a fast-paced environment with relevant focus and expertise in mental health, SSI, or well-being. Previous measurable success in building strategic initiatives and partnerships is critical.

Safety Policy Manager, Health and Well-Being Responsibilities

* Responsible for understanding the global landscape of academics, civil society, advocates, think tanks and other relevant global stakeholders on mental health, suicide and self-injury, and well-being

* Work with internal and external stakeholders to monitor, respond to and get ahead of certain mental health and well-being issues, particularly those related to young people and vulnerable communities

* Execute a strategy in partnership with regional policy teams to build, monitor, and engage with external stakeholders in relation to Facebooks policies and products related to health, well-being, and SSI

* Represent Facebook in meetings with key policy stakeholders in civil society, international institutions, and academic institutions

* Work with and provide subject matter expertise to Facebook's product, operations, integrity, research, policy, and program teams to support those using our platforms to build connections and communities that support and foster mental health and well-being

* Advise and support Facebook teams working on safety, mental health, and well-being content, product policies, tools, operational responses, programs, resources and guides

* work with and collect input from external experts and organizations and support executing a holistic response to mental health and well-being needs around the world

* Work within Facebook's Policy team to formulate certain policies that govern user, advertiser, and developer behavior on Facebook and uniquely impact the safety, health and well-being of people on our platforms. This includes policies to encourage safe and responsible online activity as well as policies that deter or mitigate certain heath, well-being, and safety risks

* Lead development of content for all external facing mental health and well-being guidance, responses, supports, resources and presentations

* Manage key initiatives on SSI, mental health, well-being and other health programs as relevant

* Willingness to roll up sleeves and do any task required to get the job done

Minimum Qualifications

* 10+ years of experience in mental health, well-being and technology

* Experience with consensus-building and proven track record of collaborative approach to problem solving and teamwork

* Demonstrated experience working analytically in a fast-paced environment and thinking, moving and executing quickly

* Experience operating independently, highly organized, autonomous, and structured

* Experience growing and managing strategic partnerships, presenting before internal and external stakeholders, and representing companies at the ministerial level

* Experience producing results under deadlines, juggling multiple projects at once, finding pragmatic and creative solutions to business issues, providing concise and business-focused advice, and making sound judgments

Preferred Qualifications

* Advanced degree in mental health, public health, or health policy

* Experience working cross-functionally with numerous teams across policy, legal, operations, programs and product teams

* Experience working in a rapidly growing and fast-paced environment

* Experience working with civil society organizations and international institutions around the world

* Experience working in public policy, advocacy, or service delivery around mental health issues and at the intersection of technology, social media, and safety

* Experience working in the intersection of technology, social media, and safety
