Job Description

Attempting to connect the world requires an alternative approach to building and deploying telecom network infrastructure. Through organizations like the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) and through direct engagement with individual operators around the world, the team collaborates globally with the telecom industry to identify and execute a range of connectivity programs. If you have passion for working with operators, ISPs, technology vendors and other industry stakeholders to drive innovative, cutting edge, cost efficient wireless and network infrastructure projects that will deliver internet access to the unconnected while significantly scaling current networks then this is a great role for you. As a Connectivity Technologies and Ecosystems Manager, you will work closely with the Facebook Connectivity team and TIP members to develop the connectivity ecosystem in North America. In parallel you will interface with industry leading technology partners, including hardware/software vendors and systems solution providers. Finally, you will work closely with network operators adopting the telecom infrastructure to understand how Facebook and its partners contributions can be of most impact to this diverse ecosystem.

Connectivity Technology Ecosystem Manager Responsibilities

* An industry expert who questions the status quo and uses their strategic vision for the connectivity technology landscape to shape Facebook's efforts in the wireless and networking domains. Ultimately, they will enable infrastructure solutions with the operator community, drive deployments at scale and influence the industry at large.

* Grow the operator engagement in North America across various TIP Project Groups including OpenRAN, Open Core Network, WiFi and more.

* Establish and develop personal and functional credibility as a key regional partner with key leaders of operators and technology partners.

* Manage the relationship with technology partners to align product portfolios, roadmaps, identify the most impactful opportunities, help reduce friction and remove obstacles preventing technology readiness and market adoption. Drive innovative Radio Access Network (RAN), Mobile Core, WiFi, Networking etc. solutions working closely with silicon, antenna, hardware manufacturing, software and system integration technology partners.

* Identify key telecom use cases, business case gaps, and common technical requirements from operator partners in North America to drive design parameters with the global technology vendor community.

* Identify key telecom network use case requirements, compile common feature sets and software open API requests from operator partners to drive design parameters within Facebook programs and the technology vendor community. Develop robust plans with technology partners for successful trials and large scale deployments of TIP incubated infrastructure solutions.

* Define cutting edge business and technical approaches for telecom infrastructure deployments. Engage with technology partners to showcase, scope and execute trials and deployments of innovative infrastructure solutions that will help deliver on the vision for wider scale telecom infrastructure adoption.

* Foster win-win partnerships between Facebook and technology partner companies.

* Stay abreast of developments in the telecom domain including technology R&D, industry standards, use-cases and hardware/software evolution. Share that knowledge with the team.

* Advocate internally at Facebook, through TIP and the technology partner community, at large on how to successfully develop and deploy new telecom hardware and software contributions across the industry.

* Collaborate with the Facebook Connectivity team on how to contribute to TIP, highlight achievements/impact of contributions and share developments coming from partners.

* Represent Facebook in key industry consortia and events and share learnings internally with the wider engineering and partnership teams.

* Draft white papers, blog posts and create other collateral to share with the broader community with the goal to introduce and help drive adoption of TIP infrastructure solutions.

* Support the direction and expansion of the team, helping to scope future roles as the charter of the team grows.

* Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to 30% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications

* 8+ years of experience in tech business development, product management, or as a manager/engineer in R&D, technical marketing, solutions architecture, product engineering or consultancy services in areas related to RAN, Core, WiFi and others.

* Understanding of wireless telecom infrastructure, system architecture, network design principles, wireless spectrum bands coupled with expertise integrating hardware and software especially for radio access solutions.

* Experience in establishing a business relationship with operator and technology ecosystem partners such as OEM/ODMs and System Integrators in North America.

* Experience in partner management, a track record of influencing change in organizations, and executing against problems and timelines.

* Understanding of the evolution and recent development of cellular 4G/5G networks including 3GPP standards (Rel-15/16) and in O-RAN Alliance.

* Experience leading system development for cellular radio base stations, identifying ecosystem partners, investigating performance issues and making necessary trade-offs in order to effectively engage technology ecosystem partners including silicon component providers, ODMs, OEMs, RAN Software Providers and System Integrators.

* Experience in driving RAN infrastructure hardware/software proof of concepts trials within TIP, Facebook or partner labs ultimately leading to field trial evaluations prior to rapid commercial deployment.

* Experience understanding network operator deployment scenarios such as different geographies, population densities, indoor vs. outdoor, ARPUs and uses cases such as fixed/mobile access, enterprise/public access to drive development of flexible, cost-effective and open infrastructure.

* Experience leading partners in the development of new technical solutions, including network hardware, protocol software, user-facing interfaces and applications, network management systems, and any other critical pieces for the adoption of a complete solution.

* Experience in leading partner development of telecom hardware, protocol software, network management systems, edge content caching systems and applications critical for adoption of the complete solution.

* BS or higher in Telecommunications engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree/experience.

* Demonstrated experience collaborating within diverse, cross-functional teams and communicating to technical, business audiences including the C-suite.

Preferred Qualifications

* MS/MBA/PhD

* Fluency in English and other languages

* Experience in 4G/5G RAN

* Knowledge in any of the following areas: optical networking, IP/MPLS, carrier Ethernet, Internet peering, caching, edge computing, network slicing, telco process orchestration/automation, cloud use cases for telecom operator
