Engineering Manager, Privacy Data Lineage

Job Description

The Privacy Product Infrastructure organization at Facebook is responsible for building the next generation of privacy infrastructure, and the foundational privacy technologies required to support sophisticated privacy policies. This is one of Facebooks highest priority initiatives. On the Privacy Data Lineage team, we build analysis systems that generate accurate and dynamic data flow graphs for general compute systems. This data lineage supports many crucial privacy objectives including automated policy propagation and enforcement. The organization seeks an Engineering Manager that has a background in languages, compilers, static analysis and/or dynamic analysis to grow and support the Privacy Data Lineage team. You will also support partnerships with the Product Security organization and the Programming Languages and Runtimes organization.

Engineering Manager, Privacy Data Lineage Responsibilities

* Support a team of highly capable engineers responsible for foundational privacy work within the Privacy Product Infrastructure organization at Facebook

* Build systems that teams across the company rely on to ensure proper privacy data flows, both in our backend production infrastructure and across our family of products

* Help define Facebook's privacy infrastructure priorities, with a focus on helping the company generate insights into how systems at Facebook behave with respect to data flows and privacy

* Manage the best software engineering managers and engineers in the world, including helping to hire and grow the team

* Support performance management process to recognize high performance and support those who are struggling

* Provide technical guidance and mentoring to the engineers on the team

* advocate for the teams technical interests and needs

* Develop strong relationships and work cross-functionally with many partners across organizations and functions, and as a result, increase the impact of the teams work

* Work closely with engineering leaders across the company to help them prioritize privacy issues in their products and drive adoption of the systems the team builds

Minimum Qualifications

* 5+ years of work experience in software engineering, including 2+ years of proven hands-on technical management experience managing software engineering teams within an engineering organization

* Demonstrated experience working with many cross functional partners and managing programs that require management team support and buy-in

* Experience providing technical leadership and guidance, and thinking strategically and analytically to solve problems

* Coding experience in at least one language (even if it is not one that Facebook uses)

* BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience in and knowledge of languages, compilers, static analysis and/or dynamic analysis

* Coding experience with one of the following: OCaml, C++, PHP, Python, Rust, Erlang

* Proven track record building large scale, long term systems from scratch

* Successful track record partnering with other engineering teams, ideally with language internals and security teams

* Experience and interest in data privacy or data lineage
