Job Description

The Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) Research Team brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of AR and VR, which together will become as universal and essential as smartphones and personal computers are today. We are developing all the technologies needed to enable breakthrough AR glasses and VR headsets, including computer vision, graphics, body tracking, perception science, and true telepresence. The Virtual Humans team in Sausalito, CA works on cutting-edge research and development focusing on virtual people and presence. We envision a world where people connect across vast distances so our roles focus on capturing, evaluating and modeling the full human body shape and motion. We are currently seeking innovative interns with a passion for technology to develop the next generation of virtual humans. Research Topics: * Markerless motion capture * CV/CG/ML based 3D human reconstruction * Dynamic 3D surface reconstruction * Deformable surface modeling * Character animation and simulation * Physics based deformable body simulation * Applied machine learning * Perceptual evaluation

Research Intern, Full Body Capture and Reconstruction (PhD) Responsibilities

* Design and execution of algorithms

* Prototyping, building and analysis of experimental systems

* Collaboration with and support of other researchers across various disciplines

* Communication of research agenda, progress and results

Minimum Qualifications

* Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in Computer Vision, Graphics, Machine Learning, Robotics, or related field

* Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

* Must be available for 3 month to 6 month internship between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021

* Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration

* Experience with 3D geometry,, character animation and/or linear algebra

* 2+ years of experience with C, C++, and/or Python

Preferred Qualifications

* Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship

* 2+ years of experience with one or more of the following areas: developing models for 3D geometry reconstruction, non-rigid deformation, shape representation, numerical optimization, physics based simulation, deep learning

* 2+ years experience with character animation, perceptual evaluation and/or avatar evaluation

* Proven track record of achieving results as demonstrated in accepted papers at top computer vision, graphics, machine learning or robotics related journals and conferences such as CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, NeurIPS, SIGGRAPH, ICRA, etc.
