As we scale our network further, we are looking for a Performance Engineer to join our Network Backbone Engineering team to help us evaluate the performance of planning and bandwidth-resource reservation systems.
Performance Engineer, Network Planning Responsibilities
* Work closely with the network modeling and network insights team to evaluate planning and bandwidth-resource reservation systems.
* Partnering with services to understand and evaluate service architecture, debug network traffic issues and optimize network performance.
* Produce data visualizations for demand, capacity, and performance which will enable decision making to internal partners.
* Define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for quantifying supply, risk, headroom, and utilization, providing insights that enable decision making.
* Build, test, and deploy models/simulations to evaluate hypothesis, understand the key outputs, improve modeling/simulation, and provide statistical analysis.
* Support end users on ad hoc data usage and be a subject matter expert for solution development across the team.
* Leverage the Facebook software and infrastructure to develop efficient analytics.
* Build cross-functional relationships with other Data Scientists, Network Planners, Software Engineers, Network Engineers, and Service Owners to understand their data and modeling needs.
Minimum Qualifications
* BS/BA Degree in a quantitative field (e.g. Operations Research, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or Management Science).
* Experience analyzing and interpreting data, drawing conclusions, defining metrics, recommending actions, and reporting results across various stakeholders.
* Experience with Monte Carlo simulations, operations research, and/or optimization.
* Hands-on experience with large datasets.
* Experience working with optimization frameworks such as Xpress, Gurobi, or CPlex.
* Fundamental knowledge of statistical data analysis, modeling, graph theory and optimization.
* Programming experience with Python or C/C++, and experience with SQL.
* Effective communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
* Graduate work experience in a highly quantitative field.
* Experience building an end-to-end data driven product.
* Experience working with time-series data.
* Knowledge of or experience with computer networks/network infrastructure.
* Experience framing network capacity planning optimization problems.
