Technician, Lab Support- Anderson, Indiana - Mon-Fri 2pm-10:30pm
Basic Purpose:
The Support Technician performs various technical and clerical functions, under the supervision of the supervisor or designee. Duties may include: order entry, processing, testing, (including Point of Care patient testing) and reporting of waived and moderately complex kit test results as allowed by organizational and CLIA guidelines. The standard of ethical and professional performance must be consistent with established medical laboratory practice.
Duties and Responsibilities:
I. General
A. Complies with all OSHA, health and safety requirements.
B. Complies with all MACL policies and procedures to include HR & Corporate Compliance/Integrity as a condition of employment.
C. Contributes to a positive work environment by functioning as a team member.
D. Organizes, plans, and performs multiple tasks to accomplish corporate objectives.
E. Cooperates in the completion of additional duties as assigned.
F. Utilizes and maintains equipment and supplies to maximize efficiency and cost control.
G. Shows a responsibility to the job and co-workers by exhibiting good attendance and punctuality.
H. Provides internal and external customer assistance with a positive, service-oriented attitude, including proper telephone etiquette.
I. Demonstrates flexibility as required to meet customer and organizational needs.
J. Participates actively in continuing education to maintain and improve skills and knowledge.
K. Maintains ethical standards such as confidentiality and professionalism.
L. Prior to the initiation of job duties and the performance of new duties, each individual must complete training checklists and be evaluated for proper performance of duties (competency).
M. Demonstrates competency on all checklist tasks within six months.
II. Processing
A. Adheres to collection and processing requirements to prevent the loss or compromise of specimens.
1. Utilizes all tools (including computer functions) to ensure appropriate specimen requirements and knowledge of interferences.
2. Performs accurate and complete labeling.
3. Follows proper processing techniques (i.e., pour off, culture set up).
B. Prepares and stores specimens appropriately.
C. Performs and completes all documentation to facilitate processing, tracking and problem-solving.
D. Utilizes computer functions appropriately, including manual backup systems.
E. Evaluate specimen integrity for testing ordered.
F. Prioritizes workload appropriately.
III. Technical
All Support Technicians perform technical work under the direct supervision of a qualified individual.
A. Performs technical duties accurately as assigned.
B. Performs general cleaning, daily maintenance, supplies and inventory of technical areas as assigned.
C. Performs clerical functions:
Reports, pending logs, charging, credit reports, patient charts, faxing, filing, and registration.
D. Performs and documents non-testing preventative maintenance as trained, assigned and competency documented.
E. Reports and documents testing and non-testing QC results as trained, assigned and competency documented.
F. Performs additional technical tasks as assigned, i.e. processing send out tests, frozen section room duties, supply/reagent management.
G. Demonstrates working knowledge of all computer systems within the department (s).
H. Ensures all daily and periodic maintenance and non-testing QC is performed, as assigned.
I. Resolves department issues, as assigned, to include specimen processing, maintenance, QC, and patient testing, referring to supervisor when appropriate.
J. Assists with training of new associates, as assigned.
K. Loads all instrumentation as trained, assigned and competency documented.
L. Cross-trains in other technical areas or departments, maintaining competency in all assigned tasks.
M. Assists with inventory management, and performs QC of bedside devices for new lot/new shipments.
IV. Testing
All Support Technicians perform testing work under the direct supervision of a qualified individual.
A. Performs and documents preventative maintenance as trained and assigned and competency documented.
B. Performs waived testing & moderate complex testing as trained, assigned and competency documented.
C. Performs and documents QC as trained, assigned and competency documented.
D. Reports and documents patient and QC results of waived testing and moderately complex kit testing as trained, assigned and competency documented.
E. Operates all instrumentation as trained and assigned and competency documented, to include performance of maintenance, QC and patient testing.
F. Prepares and stains Hematology slides as trained, assigned and competency documented.
G. Prepares and stains gram stain slides as trained, assigned and competency documented.
H. Issues blood components for transfusion as trained, assigned and competency documented.
I. Performs biannual testing for correlation or linearity studies of bedside devices.
V. Performs other duties as assigned, trained and competency documented.

Work Experience:
Prefer one year experience in a hospital or laboratory setting.
