Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY

The primary responsibility is to apply lab animal technical skills in supporting WRDs research programs using animals while supporting husbandry procedures in the animal facility. The Technical Expert Lead completes these tasks with comprehensive knowledge and detailed understanding of procedures and practices associated with animal care, in-vivo research, husbandry and facility support. The Technical Expert Lead works with the CM manager to schedule study support for the animal facility and trains and mentors less experienced colleagues in technical study support while demonstrating positive leadership qualities and work habits.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

* Perform routine animal husbandry and welfare duties as directed.
* Support research by providing specialty technical services (dose administration, blood collection, blood and tissue collection, preparation, vascular access port maintenance, surgery, data collection, record keeping and additional services) in support of WRD research programs.
* Required to work with all species across the site with assignments based on the business needs.
* Assist the facility manager and other Technical Leads in identifying the need for updating or initiating procedures.
* Train and instruct CM personnel in proper techniques, SOPs, regulatory guidelines and general duties associated with animal care and welfare.
* Set a workplace standard through leading by example, showing mastery of all SOPs, regulatory guidelines and Pfizer policies.
* Exemplify work-place standards, positive habits and behaviors to co-workers.
* Maintain complete records and assure the standards for documentation and record keeping.
* Observe and report status of animal health, food and water consumption, appearance and behavior to veterinary staff.
* Provide technical support as requested by veterinary staff.
* Support equipment operation and maintenance for both CM and research procedures.
* Assists the Facility Manager with recommendations for facility maintenance needs, updates and general repairs.
* Adhere to Pfizer and departmental safety policies and departmental SOPs and guidelines.
* Comprehensive computer knowledge such as email, online forms, web-based training and other basic programs. Collect and input data in support of research projects.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

* High School degree or GED required.
* Experience working with nonhuman primate required.
* Extensive technical and husbandry experience working with animals required. In general, a colleague at this level will have minimum 5 years of experience.
* LATG required.
* Basic computer knowledge such as email, online forms, web-based training and other basic programs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Associates or BS/BA in related field
* Experience working in a pharmaceutical or research setting strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

* Must be able to lift 50 pounds and work standing up lifting items above shoulder level for extended periods of time.
* Ability to perform repetitive physical activities such as: pushing and pulling racks of caging, lifting bags of feed and bedding, reaching, stooping and bending.
* A Functional Capacity Evaluation may be required.
* Ability to demonstrate level of technical skills and abilities.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

* Weekend and holiday work are required for the job.
* This is an essential personnel role and in most cases essential personnel are required to be onsite during an emergency or suspension of operations.
