Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY

The St. Louis Gene Therapy (GTx) Lab Technician will be part of a diverse team of technicians focused on the support of the BRD development labs. In particular, the GTx technician will support the gene therapy group (downstream functions) by ensuring equipment is properly calibrated and maintained and lab supplies are available as needed. The technician will be responsible for the overall cleanliness and organization as well. The technician will also support the unit operations in the lab and will be cross-trained to provide backup for lab technician functions within the organization.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

* Downstream Gene Therapy Development lab support operations.
* This includes scheduling, set-up and take-down, calibrations, sterilization, deactivation/cleaning, general maintenance and routine maintenance of equipment used by the Gene Therapy team.
* Additional responsibilities will include troubleshooting equipment, maintaining various electronic databases and/or files.
* Regularly meets with scientist to discuss operations efficiency and interact with external vendors on occasion to solve instrument issues.
* Interface and troubleshoot automated systems weekly.
* Prioritize task and coordinate schedule according to operation requirements.
* Work independently and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
* Ordering and maintaining of lab supplies and spare parts. Will be required to keep the overall lab orderly and organized.
* Interacting with vendors for repairs as required.
* The technician will be cross trained in other lab functions in order to provide backup as needed.

Qualifications

Must-Have

* Associates Degree, or BS/BA in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry or equivalent.
* 2+ years of experience
* Demonstrated experience in a biotechnology manufacturing or laboratory environment.
* Operational knowledge of computerized systems.
* Familiarity with Production Control Systems, Enterprise Resource Planning Systems and other business systems.
* Maintains a safe work environment.
* Demonstrated capability to work as a team member in a matrix development team.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office required, especially MS Word, MS Excel.
* Ability to work independently.
* Prior experience in a Biological Pilot Plant or Commercial Manufacturing setting is desired. This can be in a chemical plant, biologics pilot plant, clinical manufacturing plant, development lab, etc., or any combination thereof.
* Knowledge of maintenance and calibration.
* Experience in a GMP environment.

Nice-to-Have

* Prior experience in a Biological Pilot Plant or Commercial Manufacturing setting is desired. This can be in a chemical plant, biologics pilot plant, clinical manufacturing plant, development lab, etc., or any combination thereof.
* Knowledge of maintenance and calibration.
