Editorial Analyst Data Science & Analytics

The Data Science & Analytics team at the New York Post is responsible for end-to-end data capture, analysis, and data productization. The team seeks an Editorial Analyst with at least 2 years of experience in a journalism analytics or digital media analytics role.
Responsibilities
* Work directly with our digital editor-in-chief, Michelle Gotthelf, and the audience development team to optimize site traffic in real-time
* Provide editorial team with daily digital content strategies, reporting, and feedback on an article-by-article basis
* Monitor and provide real-time analysis and support of traffic fluctuations
* Develop page optimization strategies that can be integrated across our brands
* Create audience profiles that help segment audiences and continually redefine success in the newsroom
* Help develop pitches for audience-driven coverage by providing easily digestible reports and insights
* Identify content areas ripe for growth, understanding that audience interactions with our content are continuously evolving
* Challenge preexisting newsroom assumptions with hard data
* Work toward data democratization within the newsroom
* Ensure proper data collection is in place across all platforms (site, social, apps, distributed content) from technical, strategic, and business perspectives
* Collaborate with other analysts and data scientist to develop large-scale projects and performance reporting
Qualifications
* Great understanding of the intersection of journalistic reporting and audience-driven content
* Minimum 2-3 years experience in media and/or digital publishing
* Experience in gathering, synthesizing, and analyzing large data sets, particularly social network data, web analytics tools, and distributed content tracking
* Expert-level Excel skills
* Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics and/or Parse.ly experience preferred
* Portfolio of data visualization work in Excel, Tableau, Plotly or similar
* Some experience in SQL, Python, R or similar language for data analytics is helpful
* A sense of curiosity about what makes audiences interact with digital content, a desire to experiment and innovate with existing tools, and a need to figure out whats next and plan for the future
