Job Description:
The Wall Street Journal is looking for a News Editor to join our Health & Science coverage area.
We're looking for someone who is invigorated by the demands of the current news cycle and the importance of delivering top-quality stories and visuals to readers. You will work closely with bureau chiefs and reporters to meet and maintain the Journals high standards through precise and concise editing, sharp and informative headlines and distinctive presentation, while taking on additional responsibilities to independently and quickly make decisions about breaking news and manage strategy on the top news of the day.
You need to have exceptional news judgment and the ability to sharply edit and elevate stories of all types with speed and depth under deadline pressure. In addition to breaking news, you will work on lively, in-depth feature stories and graphics on a variety of core subjects valued by our readers. We're looking for a versatile editor who has the temperament to handle multiple articles and responsibilities across platforms. Experience in digital journalism is preferred as well as an appreciation of modern and innovative storytelling techniques.
While you may start the job remotely, you will eventually be based in New York and report to Stefanie Ilgenfritz, the health & science coverage chief.
You Will:
* Edit stories across the coverage areas three bureaus: Business of Health, Health & Medicine and Science.
* Handle breaking news and earnings with speed and accuracy.
* Coordinate projects and visual storytelling for the team and in collaboration with other areas of the newsroom.
You Have:
* A collegial spirit and the ability to work collaboratively with reporters on edits.
* At least three years of experience as an editor working under minimal supervision.
* Strong news judgment, particularly with deadline-oriented editing and fast-paced publishing.
* An interest in health & science, and the desire to master the subject areas.
