UP Health System - Marquette
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the patient sitter provides constant observation of patients that have been identified as needing a higher level of observation due to safety concerns.
Positions self in the patient room to maintain constant visual observation of the patient. Never leaves the patient alone or out of sight unless relieved by another designated staff member or instructed to do so by the nurse, including when visitors are present.
Maintains constant observation of the patients activity and behavior, and communicates regularly to the nurse.
Receives direction from the RN regarding: what to report, to whom, and how.
Contributes to and assists in maintaining a pleasant patient environment in a safe and orderly manner.
Accurately and legibly records data collected and notifies RN of any untoward events (behavioral changes, violent behavior, etc).
Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.
Transports patient only during emergency situations. May accompany nursing staff and remain within arms length of patient during non-emergency situations. Maintains observation of patient for any clinical tests or procedures off the
unit.
Job Requirements
Minimum Education
* High school diploma or equivalent required
* Associates degree preferred
Required Skills
* Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Certifications
* Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP) required
Minimum Work Experience
* 1 year in health care setting preferred
