Job Profile
Job Summary
The Program Manager, Controlled Substances provides oversight and direction for the daily operations of the drug diversion prevention, detection, and response program in partnership with the Pharmacy Quality Manager responsible for the same. The Program Manager serves a critical role in keeping patients and employees safe by preventing and detecting possible mishandling or diversion of controlled substances and ensuring appropriate response in the event of mishandling or diversion. The Program Manager develops and contributes to policies and procedures relative to drug diversion and follows current recommendations by professional organizations guiding drug diversion prevention strategies, including providing recurrent education to employees. The Program Manager coordinates with department leaders to meet reporting requirements related to the mishandling and diversion of controlled substances by employees. The Program Manager upholds high standards of integrity and ethical behavior, mentors others, and role models professionalism.
Minimum Qualifications
Degrees:
Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. Holds one (1) of the following: Bachelors, Masters, or Doctoral degree. Masters degree in Nursing preferred.
Licenses & Certifications:
Licensed to practice professional nursing in the state of Texas.
Certification in relevant nursing specialty within two (2) years of employment.
Work Experience: Five (5) years nursing experience.
Preferred:
i.Five (5) years of experience in investigations and investigative report processing or 8 years of health care experience
ii.Experience in leading/reporting complex or sensitive information to diverse groups
iii.Previous experience in trending and analyzing data
iv.Thorough understanding of medication dispensing technologies (automated dispensing cabinets, etc.), pharmacy operations (e.g., ordering, receiving, storage, distribution, administration, returns, wasting), and other hospital areas (i.e., perioperative, anesthesia, procedural areas, clinics, etc.)
v.Trained in interviewing techniques
Management Experience: Five years of experience managing complex projects preferred.
Communication Skills: Above Average Verbal (Heavy Public Contact), Writing / Correspondence, Writing / Reports
Proficiencies: MS Word, P.C.

Other Requirements:
a. Experience in drug diversion prevention processes
b. Federal and state medication handling and controlled substance regulation
c. Familiarity with DNV or TJC Medication Management standards, DEA, EPA and FDA regulations, and the Medicare Conditions of Hospital Participation.
d. Familiarity with national, state, and local drug abuse and diversion trends
e. Critical thinking necessary to appropriately assess and care for employee injuries and illnesses.
