As the Senior Administrator, Systems, you will be responsible for providing Linux and Unix infrastructure support, which includes installation, implementation, configuration, troubleshooting and maintaining all aspects of hardware and supported infrastructure software.
Specifically, you'll have the opportunity to:
* Daily Administration of enterprise computing servers running Linux and UNIX systems including but not limited to performing system health checks, monitoring performance, analyzing event logs, running reports and other activities related to server management in an enterprise environment.
* Monitor problem queue for Linux and UNIX infrastructure, identify and resolve issues in the server environment. Also, includes some Windows support.
* Analyze and resolve problems escalated from Desktop Support staff.
* Identify root causes on server hardware and operating system issues, download, order and replace necessary files, components and/or parts as needed.
* Interface with Desktop Support staff to communicate the status of problems.
* Interface with management to identify training opportunities and report on system status.
* Identify, recommend and participate in changes to environment that impact the user community including but not limited to Service Packs, Upgrades, Patches, Vulnerabilities, and related tasks.
* Research, analyze, recommend and develop methods to increase productivity and reduce downtown for the user community.
* Participate in projects as required and utilize standard project management methodologies.
* Install server hardware and operating systems and related utilities and assist with server and parts inventory as needed.
* Adhere to standard configuration for servers and recommends changes as needed for improved server performance or management.
* Enable clients to interface with various applications (i.e., software pushes, application picks, system updates, etc.)
* Identify the need for and assist with the documentation of processes and procedures.
* Assist management as needed with various tasks that enable the overall IT department to function efficiently.
* Proficiency with problem management, change management and asset management systems.
* Keep current with the latest virtual technology trends and innovations to meet the client's requirements
* Know the best practices when providing a solution to the client
* Provide 24-hour on-call support, including evenings, weekends, and holidays on a rotational basis
Qualifications
* High school diploma or GED
* Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience required in Linux administration
* On call rotation
Preferred:
* Bachelor's degree
* Experience with Windows administration
This is an office-based position located at our office at AOC/ I-10 and the Beltway.
