The Opportunity
We are looking for a strong Test Automation Development Manager to join an Agile QA organization which is in the process of re-platforming Ally's Commercial auto servicing capabilities for the future. Ideal candidates will be experienced in all quality aspects including: Test Automation, Test Planning, Integration Testing, Functional Testing, and Test Execution.
Our approach treats our test automation backlog like any other development pipeline; therefore, this leadership role is best suited to a technically strong QA manager/developer with leadership and team building skills along with technical capabilities in manual and automated testing.
The Test Automation Development Manager is responsible for QA efforts across product teams and provides leadership and guidance to the Automation Test Engineers. This role guides the team in the adoption of advanced test and quality assurance practices following Agile practices, including a drive to shift-left patterns. Organize multiple teams to ensure the right resources are being used to successfully accomplish sprint goals. Coach team members using questions rather than authority, drive quality through continual improvement, foster collaboration in a team-centric environment, rely on experience and judgement to accomplish goals, exhibit good communication and interpersonal skills, work well under pressure and aggressive timelines, and think beyond the day-to-day activities to ensure big-picture objectives are achieved. Willingness to roll-up-their-sleeves and get-the-work-done, participate technical discussions, and mentor team members is a must.
The Work Itself
* Experienced and passionate Agilist who will embrace and expand Ally's Agile practices through thought-leadership and integrating industry best practices
* Deep understanding and application of Agile approaches and techniques, such as XP, Scrum, Kanban, User Stories, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, and supporting feature development through active participation in an Agile team
* Demonstrate practices to write clean, quality, and testable applications that supports rapid delivery via Continuous Integration, Delivery, and automated deployments
* Evangelize automation and assist other QA team members through mentorship, tutorials, and writing scripts to speed up their manual testing efforts
* Identifying and unblocking technical risks
* Recommend and implement process improvement
* Contributing to the successful completion of deliverables on time and within budget
* Performing root cause analysis and helping solve technical issues
* Manage direct reports, helping them juggle multiple priorities and manage their time on both short and long-term goals
* Support the long-term career development of their direct reports; helping them build their skills in software testing
* Advising team members on Ally standards, security requirements, methodologies, and processes
* Interacting and communicating with technical and non-technical audiences
The Skills You Bring
* BS in Computer Science or related field preferred or equivalent years of experience
* 5+ years of software development experience with at least 3+ years in a technical leadership role
* Hands on expertise using Cypress or Selenium
* 3+ years JavaScript and Java with SQL experience
* Demonstrates developmental knowledge of coding, testing, supporting, and debugging
* Knowledgeable of enterprise-scale platforms and architectures
* Possesses strong analytical, problem-solving skills and exhibits strong leadership skills
* Experience with TDD/BDD techniques
* Experience with CI/CD and DevOps best-practices preferred
* Able to work with business partners as well as internal and external technical teams
* Can articulate business requirements and objectives and translate those into software development solutions
* Passionate about developing, configuring, connecting and integrating systems in a complex enterprise application environment.
* Grasps new technologies and can adapt to rapid shifts in priorities
* Self-motivated, self-starter with clear communication skills who thrive working in a team environment
* Technical background with experience in as many of the following as possible: qTest, Jenkins, Angular, CSS/HTML5, REST, OpenShift/Docker, Git/BitBucket, JIRA, Confluence, Oracle RDBMS
