Qualifications

This is an exciting opportunity for Combustion and Emissions Systems Technical Specialists Combustion Research IN904 in Columbus, Indiana.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

* Utilize the core competencies of thermal and fluid sciences in the specialized areas of combustion and emissions science using and advancing analytical and experimental approaches to answer key questions about the performance and architecture of a system or component.

* Perform Combustion System ALD for diesel engines and mechanical engineering projects using specialist knowledge in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, combustion and physical chemistry.

* Utilize extensive knowledge of Combustion and Emissions Science to interpret and predict the performance of combustion systems by leveraging a quantitative and intuitive comprehension of the conversion of chemical energy to heat by reacting a fuel with an oxidizer, the formation of exhaust pollutants, modeling tools, controls, and experimental tools to answer key questions about the system or component.

* Ensure combustion system designs meets engine team specifications and delivery meets agreed milestones using technical expertise in multi-dimensional engine simulation tools including combustion CFD software.

* Lead complex projects involving engineers and senior engineers.

* Evaluate and understand the engine development process and products, and support suppliers that provide components that interact with the combustion system such as fuel injectors and turbochargers.

* Apply and improve processes such as Value Package Introduction (VPI), Value Package Change (VPC), Engineering Standard Work (ESW), emissions data system, and hardware-in-the-loop testing to support the processes and enable high quality decision making.

* Apply Principles of Thermodynamics and Energy Conversion Systems to interpret and predict the performance of IC engines, gas turbines, fuel cells, and batteries.

* Solve system and product issues by using the 7-Step Product Problem Solving Process to determine assignable cause, implement robust, data-based solutions, and identify system root causes in order to recommend actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.

* Translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which designs are developed through extensive use of Systems Requirements Engineering.

* Establish acceptance criteria for the system of interest through analysis, allocation and negotiation, and track the status of requirements throughout the system lifecycle.

* Define system of interest by drawing boundaries, identifying its context within its environment, its interfaces, and that it has a lifecycle to aid in planning the problem statement, scope and deliverables.

* Participate in Systems Thinking in order to predict system behavior and devise modifications in order to produce the desired effects.

* Mitigate potential product failure modes by identifying interfaces, functions, functional requirements, interactions, control factors, noise factors to effectively and efficiently improve the reliability of products and avoid failures.

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications:

* Position requires a PhD degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Systems Engineering or related field and 1 year of experience as a Thermal and Fluid Science, Mechanical, or CPE Engineer, or related position.

* Alternatively, the employer will accept a Masters degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Systems Engineering, or related field and 3 years of experience as a Thermal and Fluid Science, Mechanical, or CPE Engineer, or related position.

WORK HOURS: 40 hours/week - 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience plus bonus.
