Description

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking an attorney to join its in-house legal division, as part of the Commercial Contracts Team. This individual will provide legal support on commercial transactions, with primary responsibility for drafting a wide range of agreements.

The candidate should be comfortable managing a large volume of matters, be skilled at prioritization and be able to adjust quickly to accommodate business needs.

Duties and responsibilities include:

* Drafting and negotiating a wide variety of contracts, including technology, services, testing, marketing and advertising, contract manufacturing, purchasing, supply, national account and others;
* Drafting sweepstakes, promotions and marketing programs;
* Working with internal clients to ensure agreements accurately reflect the business needs and protect the company;
* Counseling business clients on risks in agreements;
* Working with Caterpillars regional and substantive lawyers around the world to ensure agreements properly reflect Enterprise risk tolerances, and are otherwise drafted and managed in accordance with Enterprise Board Resolutions, Policies and Procedures;
* Working with outside counsel on a limited, but as needed basis; and
* Maintaining excellent relationships with internal clients and colleagues.

Basic Qualifications

We are seeking candidates with 6-8 years of experience, who can draft agreements efficiently and independently. The individual should have:

* A J.D. from an accredited United States law school and membership of the State Bar of any U.S. state;
* Three years of contract drafting expertise, with a preference for in-house legal experience;
* Solid work history and a strong track record of success with mid to large clients;
* Superior drafting and communication skills; and
* Strong academic credentials;
* The ability to work collaboratively and efficiently with business clients and legal colleagues.

Location: Cary, NC

Relocation is not offered for this position

Limited travel may be required to see internal clients and lawyers, with an expectation of approximately 5-10%.
