* Note: Based on education and experience, this (1) opening will be filled either as a Designer Associate or Designer:

Designer Family:
Designer Associate (Grade 3)
Designer (Grade 4)

Position Summary: Perform daily work activities with direct to moderate supervision. Work activities to be performed include: computer aided drafting to prepare maps, sketches, schematics and other engineering related drawings. The position includes associated clerical work to properly manage and document the work activities performed, as per AEP requirements for the position, as well as performing other design and engineering work as defined or directed.

Specific Duties Include:

* Create, revise and maintain detailed engineering and record drawings, maps and sketches.
* Create, revise and maintain material and property equipment records.
* Obtain information required to perform work from verbal communication, sketches, marked drawings, listings, field notes, vendors' catalogs and technical reference manuals.
* Perform mathematical calculations required to accomplish assigned work.
* Operate reproduction machines, plotters and other duplicating equipment.
* Work with other organizations of the Company to resolve discrepancies and assure that work is performed in a safe and efficient manner.
* Read vendors' prints, shop and other drawings and equipment operating instructions, and incorporate that information into the work being performed.
* Assist in training of employees as assigned.
* Promote and support the Company's Accident Prevention and Safety and Health programs.
* Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behavior and support the Company's Corporate.
* Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Additional Duties as Required:

1. Prepare and/or revise Plan and Profile drawings.
2. Prepare right-of-way and condemnations drawings.
3. Prepare access road map books.
4. Produce detail drawings and specialty maps such as 3D assembly drawings, ROW clearing maps, etc.
5. Prepare permits including FAA, river crossing, railroad, highway, storm water, etc.
6. Prepare large exhibits for public workshops or other presentations.
7. Prepare right-of-way parcel maps.
8. Prepare exhibits for court cases.
9. Enter, update and revise data in AEPs TGIS program (ARCGIS).
10. Create Project Maps in both Cadd and GIS environments
11. File project drawings upon project completion.
12. Maintain plotter hardware and supplies.
13. Provide CAD software support to department.
14. Perform field photography.
15. Monitor and Review Transmission Line Engineerings (TLEs) Outside Engineering Contractors (OECs) on AEP Drawing standards.
16. Serve and participate on TLEs working groups as required.
17. Working knowledge of survey data formats and digital elevation models.
18. Ability to perform field site visits, as necessary.

Minimum Requirements

Designer Associate:
Education: Associate's degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer aided design (CAD) or in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering technology, or related field of study; OR High School diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience is required. Must be familiar with conventional drafting symbols and drafting methods and have the ability to distinguish colors.

Designer:
Education: Associate degree in applied science (AAS) for drafting and computer aided design (CAD) or in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering technology required; OR a High School diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience;

Experience: Two years of relevant work experience required, in addition to any experience listed above.

Note: Some noted requirements are mutually exclusive with regard to each specific discipline.

Must be familiar with conventional drafting symbols and drafting methods and have the ability to distinguish colors

Other Requirements: Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.

This position may require shift work or overtime. Occasional overnight travel to, and work within, a substation or power plant environment expected. Position requires adherence to safety regulations and use of personal protection equipment
