Wondery is a premium podcast publisher known for character-driven, binge-worthy stories including Apology Line, Even the Rich, American Scandal and Business Wars. Wonderys shows have gained critical acclaim and commercial success from an immersive approach to audio storytelling, which helps listeners to Feel the Story. Ten of the Top 20 New Shows of 2020 were from Wondery, according to Podtrac, and an impressive 31 of Wonderys shows hit 1 on Apple Podcasts since 2017. Many Wondery series are being adapted for scripted television, including WeCrashed, The Shrink Next Door, and Dr. Death.
Position Overview:
Wondery is looking for a Sr. Director of Content Acquisitions & Talent Relations to join the rapidly growing team in Los Angeles. Reporting to the Head of Business Affairs, this executive will be responsible for developing and maintaining podcast content and talent partnerships for Wondery, both in the U.S. and abroad.
This executive will be responsible for increasing revenue and overall growth in listenership by establishing and growing relationships for partner podcast shows. The ideal candidate will possess both a background working directly with talent and intellectual property owners of partner podcast shows as well as a sales background to easily interact with the internal Wondery sales and marketing teams. This executive should also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about business issues and negotiate contracts.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Develop and manage strategic relationships with partner shows and talent.
Proactively recruit new partner shows and talent to be part of the Wondery network.
Work with all Wondery stakeholders (Exec Team, Sales Team, Content Team, Marketing Team) to develop and refine Wonderys ongoing strategy and target list for new partner shows.
Set goals and roadmap for partner shows, looking at genres / categories, audience segments, size of shows, monetization opportunity, etc. to meet Wonderys goals and related success metrics, including growth in revenue, monthly downloads, and unique listeners.
Maintain the Wondery+ and partner show content pipeline, ensuring a steady cadence of hit shows for listeners.
Stay abreast of industry news, emerging trends, competitive landscape and offerings, audio platforms, podcast landscape as well as top and emerging shows in all categories.
Attend industry conferences as required to develop industry relationships.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least 8+ years of overall work experience and at least 5 years experience in business development and podcast partnerships including negotiating and structuring contracts.
Bachelor of Arts Degree.
Exceptional analytical and strategic skills, including quantifying the value of potential podcast partnerships and content.
Understanding of audio apps and a willingness to learn audio-specific performance tracking.
A self-starter with the ability to adapt rapidly in a fast-moving environment with shifting priorities and the ability to react quickly and intelligently.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
