The AWS Networking team develops and operates the network platform for all of Amazon including e-commerce products and cloud computing solutions. This platform is industry-leading for its efficiency, performance, reliability and scale and it is critical to the success of all AWS customers.
We are looking for a results-oriented Software Development Manager for a team to build a service to determine how, when, and where to deploy capacity for the network connecting our data centers. The team is responsible for the optimization software for how our regions should evolve and scale as we continue to grow. The leader will gain experience in networking technologies and the best practices required to design and grow a data center network that operates at an unmatched global scale.
The Manager in this role will be responsible for:
*Leading the inter data center network growth systems team including system architecture, accelerated proof of concept, roadmap development, and product delivery while providing guidance to the senior leadership team.
*Creating a vision and plan for the team to execute by identifying gaps and innovation opportunities to deliver a high performance system to drive down inter data center transfer cost and strategic availability improvements.
*Working closely with customers and internal partners on all dependencies in creating an optimized network growth strategy.
*Building a world class team by attracting and retaining industry leading talent.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
A background in computer science fundamentals: a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science (or equivalent).
10+ years of experience in building production software applications.
4+ years of managing teams building scalable production software.
4+ years management experience leading software development teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and opinions
Experience in mentoring software engineers to improve their skills and efficiency.
Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project.
Excellent leadership, verbal and written communication skills.
A strong customer orientation.
Deep hands-on technical expertise; prior experience as a software developer or software development manager
