Responsibilities
The primary purpose of this position is to improve business results by providing advice and counsel to operating management for day to day union-related matters, including the interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreement(s), grievance investigations, arbitration preparation, and any other labor-related requirements for assigned area. Frequent independent judgment is essential.
* Attends disciplinary investigations and advise management on action to be taken including decisions on suspension pending discharge
* Provides advice on issues filed in the grievance procedure; attends hearings in assigned areas and drafts grievance answers
* Researches case law or outcomes of previous case hearings
* Responsible for preparation and presentation of the company position during arbitration or other labor negotiation proceedings
* Investigates and drafts companys position statement for EEOC charges filed by employees in assigned areas
* Represents the Company in unemployment compensation hearings
* Negotiates and drafts contract proposals or counter-proposals for collective bargaining
* A self-starter who displays motivation, innovation, and enthusiasm
This is an individual contributor role assigned to complete moderately complex tasks, with an understanding of how the tasks relate to the work of others in the department and in the company. Receives considerable advice and direction from management to meet the responsibilities of the position; however, must have a strong background with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations, (EEO, ADA, FLSA, FLMA, and NLRA) and knowledge of the Basic Labor Agreement sufficient to support the operation of the assigned business area(s).
Minimum Requirements
* Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university
* Three (3) years working in a labor relations capacity in a union environment having exhibited the following skillsets:
* Demonstrated working knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreements
* Experience advocating during an arbitration
* Familiarity with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to EEO, ADA, FLSA, FLMA, and NLRA
* Proven experience in establishing and maintaining relationships with multiple levels of the organization
* Solid analytical, writing, advocacy, consultative, problem solving, and coaching skills, being decisive and influencing others
* Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Requirements
* Bachelors Degree in Industrial Relations or Law Degree preferred
* Five (5) years working in a labor relations capacity in a union environment
