Job Description

Join an enthusiastic and cutting-edge team here at General Motors in our Global Autonomous Driving Center (GADC). Sensor Performance is a rapidly developing area, deploying multiple new sensors, subsystems and features to driver assist and autonomous vehicles. We have an exciting opportunity as a sensor performance engineer, responsible for the development of sensors for GM vehicles. The position involves hands on vehicle testing, simulation, data analysis and performance optimization.

The GADC Sensor Performance Engineer is responsible for all the performance aspects of the sensors to provide the highest level of benefit to our customers. The position involves working with design release engineers to define sensor requirements, along with perception and capability engineers to develop and refine sensor capabilities. You will be responsible to develop, evaluate and deliver program specific sensor performance to the customer.

Sensor Performance Engineer Responsibilities:

* Lead vehicle development of sensor performance

* Single point contact for sensor performance root cause and issue resolution

* Assist release engineers, perception team and suppliers to ensure sensor capability is developed to achieve feature performance

* Collaborate with system engineering to establish and improve sensor requirements to meet perception and feature performance

* Develop and maintain sensor development plan to optimize sensor performance for all environments

* Provide sensor performance analysis and advance technology project support

* Participate in workgroups and technical reviews as required

* Perform technical performance evaluations

* Support key milestone reviews, development and buyoff rides

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

* Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or a related engineering degree
* Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience in an automotive or related industry
* Experience with data analysis and the associated tools
* Ability to root cause complex problems
* Ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Demonstrated ability to successfully accomplish tasks under minimal supervision
* Possess a valid drivers license

Preferred Qualifications:

* Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science
* Experience with vehicle or component development, integration and diagnostics
* Understanding of the use of vehicle instrumentation and data acquisition systems
* Experience with lidar, camera, radar or sensor systems
* Simulink, MATLAB & Python tool/script development proficiency
* Experience with simulation, HIL, and mathematical modeling
* Understanding of Global Vehicle Development Process
* DFSS Black Belt
