Job Description

The Global Technical Accounting team (GTA) has developmental roles that are designed to rotate through some of the GTA areas; New Standards, Accounting Policy, Technical Accounting Analysis, and Mergers & Acquisitions. This role provides an excellent rotational opportunity for an Analyst to build upon their technical accounting knowledge, gain exposure to complex global accounting issues as well as senior leadership within the organization and across the international regions. You will enhance and develop your foundational knowledge of accounting across a broad spectrum of topics and issues to create a well-rounded experience. You should bring a solid foundation of accounting knowledge with an eagerness to learn to this role. If you are a self-starters who take initiative, can manage projects through to completion, and have strong written and oral communication abilities, this is a great opportunity to leverage your skills.

Below represents some sample responsibilities related to each GTA area available for rotational opportunities:

Accounting Policy

* Develop and maintain GMs global Accounting Policy Manual (APM) to ensure accounting practices are conducted in accordance with US GAAP

* Collaborate with other Controllership teams on various accounting policy issues to determine appropriateness and consistency within the relevant APM sections

* Identify, review, and report accounting conventions and/or deviations to define materiality and impact on the financial statements

* Deep-dive accounting practice inconsistencies or lack of accounting policy that have been identified within the business

New Standards

* Monitor and report FASB activities to identify changes in existing guidance that will have an impact on GMs financial statements Participate in FASB outreach, industry groups, and the Big 4; facilitate process for correspondence with the FASB through Comment Letter submission

* Research, interpret, and document all new accounting standards and how each applies to GM as well as comply with external 10-Q/10-K reporting requirements

* Partner with regions in the implementation of new accounting standards

* Team with the Accounting Policy to ensure changes in GAAP are appropriately reflected in the APM

Technical Accounting Analysis and Complex Contract Reviews

* Responsible for the completion of technical accounting analysis and accounting concurrence memos, working closely with the business/regions

* Derivatives Embedded/NPNS

* Variable Interest Entities

* Embedded Leases

* Securitizations

* Arrangements with joint ventures

Mergers & Acquisitions

* M&A Accounting manages the comprehensive impact of M&A and other business development activities on GMs accounting function, with a global viewpoint and a focus on risk

* Accounting due diligence

* Transaction technical accounting analysis & application

* Operational accounting integration

* Communication link for M&A activity

* Strategic business partner throughout the organization

* Determine the impact of transactions on the financial statements (actual, forecast and budgets)

* Work with the business to operationalize the accounting



Additional Job Description

Qualifications

Required:

* Bachelors degree or Masters degree with major in accounting, business administration or related field
* CPA or CA required with at least 4 years of public accounting experience or equivalent industry experience in accounting
* Solid understanding of US GAAP
* Experience with drafting and reviewing accounting whitepapers
* Demonstrated superior documentation skills
* Ability to consistently meet deadlines
* Ownership of assigned areas of responsibilities
* Problem solving and analytical abilities where problems are complex
* Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated commitment to teamwork and partnerships
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Ability to network and collaborate cross-functionally; and embrace and manage change

Preferred:

* Technical accounting knowledge and experience
* Experience preparing and reviewing SEC disclosures and other external reporting
* Ability to quickly understand complex transactions and provide direction to the global team and accounting leadership regarding impacts on accounting, reporting, processes, and controls
* Master Degree in Business Administration or related advanced degree
