Work Hours/Shift Options: Full Time Day Shift

You Will Be Responsible For:

* Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospitals core values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork.
* Ensures safe transport, transfer, and positioning of patients utilizing good body mechanics. Maintains patient privacy and dignity at all times. Adheres to policies related to patient identification and confidentiality. For Surgical Assistants in the OR: utilizes knowledge of surgical specialty positioning equipment.
* Participates in the preparation of the patient for procedures as directed by RN. Cooperates as part of the multidisciplinary team by communicating pertinent patient information to the RN and completing delegated duties as directed. Is aware of the sterile boundaries within the operating room when supplies are opened.
* Ensures appropriate disposition of supplies, labs, and specimens. Participates in hand off communication and verification process for specimens with laboratory personnel. May remove medications from the pneumatic tube system for immediate delivery to the RN or for securing purposes in the medication room. Ensures linens, scrubs, and other supplies are stocked and maintained. Completes duties within assigned timeframes.
* Efficient and organized in skills to assist team with safe and appropriate turnovers. Utilizes knowledge of cleaning protocols for all types of specialty surgical equipment. Articulates department goals and metrics for first cases starts and turnover times and contributes ideas for improvement. Readily available to perform all duties.
* Promotes a safe environment. Takes appropriate action in emergency situations, being aware and in control of hazards which may endanger patients, visitors and employees. Identifies and reports environmental concerns to the management team. Ensures adherence to appropriate regulatory standards and Florida Hospital policy and procedure.
* Follows CDC isolation guidelines, demonstrates appropriate use of PPE, performs handwashing according to policy and enforces safety regulations. Strictly adheres to all infection control practices. Utilizes knowledge of bloodborne pathogens and practices for safe handling. Utilizes knowledge of waste stream processes and appropriate disposal of surgical waste. Ensures disposal containers are correctly labeled to meet regulatory standards.
* Supports the customer and employee satisfaction activities of the organization. Maintains good relationships with physicians, management, other departments, and staff
* Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department. Adheres to all policies and procedures.

* Ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements

* High School Diploma or GED
* Previous experience working with patients in an acute care setting
* Previous experience in an acute care hospital setting
* PCT experience (dependent on role)

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Surgical Assistant I (SAI) works under supervision of the professional nurse, assisting in performing specific duties and activities for patients of all age groups (may include neonate to geriatric). This includes transportation, assisting with positioning, and patient preparation for procedures as required. Responsible for environmental needs in the department including management of blood and body fluids. Acts as a runner for time sensitive and clinically significant products, such as stat labs and blood. For employees working the operating rooms, participates in OR room turnover ensuring effective and efficient room turnovers. Adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
