Opportunity summary: As a Quality/Safety Manager you will ensure that quality standards are met and maintained by understanding, implementing, and enforcing WestRock processes, policies, and procedures. As a Quality/Safety Manager you will be responsible for all activities related to occupational safety and health in the facility you are aligned to and you will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements and laws to prevent hazards and injuries. As a Quality/Safety Manager you will manage and develop safety programs to educate supervisors and managers and to prevent hazards, risks, and injuries.
How you will impact WestRock
Review, approve, and execute facility and corporate standard operating procedures for site implementation
Monitor and ensure compliance with current policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and customer requirements
Work closely with production managers to maximize product quality and reliability and minimize cost
Determine, document, and approve site-specific or one-time occurrences such as protocols (reworks, validations, etc.), deviations (planned or unplanned), waivers, or releases for materials and products as required
Leverage enterprise technology to analyze quality complaints, track corrective and preventive actions, and use data to isolate and track defective parts per million, over shipments, and resolve issues related to rejected products when applicable
Execute facility improvement initiatives as determined from performance data
Lead team of quality technicians and Safe Quality Foods (SQF) readiness resources, ensuring that processes are efficient, and work is appropriately prioritized
Provide tools and training for quality management and quality improvement to the facility staff
Develop and maintain safety education training program within the plant environment
Maintain and update existing safety procedures, standard operating procedures, and policies
Perform hazardous risk assessments for tasks or jobs to identify potential hazards and develop risk prevention plans to mitigate them
Review and analyze accident/injury reports and data for accuracy and detail, ensuring corrective actions are taken
Partner with workers compensation and general liability insurance representatives to ensure compliance with policy requirements
Assist in administration of safety incentive program, including assessing participation, monitoring engagement, reviewing all data, and ensuring incentives are paid
Manage compliance for environmental regulations (e.g. air permits, water runoff)
Model and promote an organizational culture that fosters safe practices through effective leadership and training
What you need to succeed:
High School diploma or G.E.D.
Must have 5 to 10 years of work-related manufacturing experience
Should have 3 to 5 years experience in production supervisory role
Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage and inspire others to comply with quality standards
Proven track record of problem-solving
Thorough knowledge of quality standards and methodologies
Ability to learn proprietary software programs and leverage enterprise complaint management software
Professional training and quality certifications courses (e.g. Six Sigma, ISO Certification) are preferred
