The R&D Summer Intern works individually with a mentor on specific projects that support both the academic development of the intern and contribute value to POC. The primary focus area is in systems for in vitro diagnostic (IVD) instruments for point of care and laboratory medical testing. These medical devices provide rapid and accurate diagnostic testing for clinical laboratories and point of care clinicians for the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with diabetes, kidney diseases, cardiac conditions, respiratory issues, critical care conditions, and other clinical applications.
This is a role well suited to an ambitious professional, looking for the next step in their career. As a R&D Intern, you will be responsible for:
* Working with a mentor, the intern will work on specific projects at the intersection of biomedical engineering, systems engineering and software.
* Project(s) will include a learning cycle followed by specific deliverables over the course of the internship.
* The position will work, and be guided by, cross-functional R&D resources depending on the nature of the project(s).
* This position reports into R&D, with direction from both R&D and Product Management to ensure tradeoffs between customer value and delivery are optimized.

* Experience with GLP or lab work desirable.
* Knowledge of MATLAB, MAPLE or equivalent programs critical
* Experience with OOP languages such as C/C++ highly preferred
Required skills to have for the success of this role
* Currently enrolled in a bachelors degree program in an accredited institution, ideally a rising senior.
* Detail oriented with ability to work independently
* Must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 or higher
* Must be local to the Norwood, MA office (50 miles or less) and feel comfortable working in a fully virtual environment; relocation/housing stipend will not be provided for this internship
* Must have permanent work authorization
* Must be available to work full-time (up to 40 hours/week) during the summer
Start date: May 2021; 3-4 month duration.
