TITLE: SEO EDITOR, US
The Sun Online is one of the biggest global publishers and the UKs biggest digital newsbrand. The work of its award-winning Audience Development team includes social media, SEO, audience analytics, and all other areas involving the distribution of the Suns content. It aims to grow our on and off-platform audience, and increase engagement and loyalty. The team is key in implementing the business-wide strategy to meet targets, and will continue to grow to incorporate new skills and responsibilities.
The Sun launched in the US - with The US Sun - in January 2020, and we need experienced SEO Editors to support our ongoing expansion and run our US audience operation: driving SEO traffic, growing new audiences, and building engagement and loyalty with our readers.
You will:
* Play a key role in the ongoing development and execution of The Sun's SEO and audience strategy.
* Make recommendations to journalists and section heads through the day about trending search terms and relevant keywords.
* Pre-plan for future articles and events by building out topics and doing keyword research for upcoming exclusives or events e.g. Oscars, Olympics
* Monitor daily output and ensure relevant cross linking in articles, ensure articles and pages are correctly tagged, forward link top traffic driving pages to other more recent articles to encourage circulation.
* As a team, ensure the newsroom has sufficient insight to produce far-reaching, Internet-friendly stories
* Focus on targets and be clear on what is required in order to meet them.
You will need:
* Editorial background ideally with experience in a digital publishing environment
* Good understanding of the principles of editorial SEO
* Familiarity with some SEO tools incl. Google Trends
* To work flexibly, including evening and weekend shifts.
