Position Summary
The Manager of Infection Prevention (under the direction of the Infection Prevention Director) is responsible for coordination of facility-wide activities related to evaluating and managing infection control risks for special population and/or areas. The Manager of Infection Prevention functions as the hospital-wide liaison responsible for the facility-wide planning and implementation of the facility-wide infection control program. The objective of the Infection Control Program is to minimize the probability of transmission of infection, thus providing a better and safer hospital for its patients and personnel. This position for assisting with development of internal systems to streamline education and communication and acts as a liaison between Director and internal and external entities.

In 2005, Sunrise Childrens Hospital completed at $75 million renovation and expansion effort, which is the last time the facility added it its capacity. Currently, the two hospital have 690 beds. When the project is complete, the capacity will grow to 762 beds.

Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor degree in nursing or related field required or relevant years experience
Masters degree in nursing or related field preferred.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years experience related to Epidemiology/Infection Prevention required
Minimum 1 year supervisory experience required
Skills:
* Departmental Co-chair of Infection Prevention Committee
* Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of infection control process in the health care setting.
* Demonstrates knowledge of risk stratified statistics as applicable to trending healthcare acquired infections.
* Demonstrates understanding of standard and transmission-based precautions as set forth by the CDC.
* Attends continuing education programs and maintains current knowledge of all aspects of infection control.
* Demonstrates knowledge of microbiology, and modes of transmission of disease entities.
* Demonstrates ability to teach principles and practical application of infection control to all levels of healthcare personnel.
* Assists with implementation of a system for identifying, investigating, reporting and preventing the spread of healthcare acquired infections among specialized patient populations
* Develops and implements specialized patient population processes related to isolation and infection transmission through collaboration with all involved healthcare workers and partners.
* Performs in-depth analysis of possible outbreaks or clusters in specialized patient populations
* Initiates culture and sensitivity and/or appropriate isolation precautions when indicated.
* Provides supervisory leadership for all educational needs requested of Infection Prevention
* Assists with validation and submission of data to the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) per State regulations, and CMS requirements as needed when data investigations are necessary
* Assists in the development, implementation and improvement of infection control practices.
* Coordinates oversight of construction activities throughout the facility
* Monitors proper use of germicides, cleaning products, antiseptics and disinfectants in use throughout the facility.
* Monitors methods of asepsis, sterilization and disinfection employed throughout the facility.
* Reviews and/or revises all department policies and procedures related to infection control on a concurrent basis.
* Prepares statistics and other pertinent data and reports as needed or directed
* Stays abreast of changing infection control practices and presents possible solutions for compliance related to specialized population.
* Oversees and assists with environmental surveillance activities throughout all areas of the hospital.
* Designs and implements new methods to improve the efficacy and outcomes of the Infection Control Program.
* Implements and conducts special studies when appropriate or requested by the Infection Prevention Director.
* Based on studies that identify areas for improved patient outcomes, submits targeted surveillance indicators for specialized patient population.
* Establishes effective interpersonal relationships with physicians, nurses and all other members of the healthcare team. Communicates in a manner that conveys mutual understanding and respect.
* Coordinates with Employee Health on issues of Infection Prevention and Control for staff, volunteers and physicians.
* Must abide by the HCA Code of Conduct and the Hospitals Standards of Behavior.
* Must possess excellent interpersonal skills including oral and written communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and demonstrate ability to think critically and objectively
* Excellent organization skills, ability to establish priorities and multitask in a timely and efficient manner,
* Proven leadership/supervisory skills.
* Proficient in PC-based computer software, i.e., Word, Excel, Access. PowerPoint, Visio, and/or similar systems. Experience with hospital systems such as Meditech and Theradoc
Licensure:
Current Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required or must obtain within 2 years of hiring
