The OR Techs assist surgeons and other medical professionals in hospital operating rooms and similar environments. Chiefly, they prepare patients, rooms and equipment for pending surgical procedures. They also assist during those procedures as part of a team of operating room professionals.

The role of the OR Tech II is to assist the OR team in the care of patients, equipment and supplies. The OR Tech II in 701 Surgery provides care for birth to pediatric, pediatric/child patients between 1 to 11 years of age; adolescent patients between 12 to 17 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older.

Responsibilities:

* In the first scrub role handles the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.
* Has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
* Has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.
* When the OR Tech II is in the second scrub role they assists the surgeon and/or surgical assistant during the operative procedure by carrying out tasks including sponging, suctioning, cutting suture, holding retractors and manipulating the endoscopic camera. This role is distinct from that of the first scrub and surgical first assistant.

Qualifications

What qualifications you will need:

* Graduate of an accredited school of Certified Operating Room Technicians (CORT)
* Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.
* Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) from American Red Cross required upon hire.
* Two Years experience in two (2) of the following: open-heart, neurosurgery, or orthopedics required. Robotics preferred.
