Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM's Tech Re-Entry program is looking for talented technical professionals who are looking to restart their technical careers after an absence from the workforce of 12 months or more. This paid apprenticeship will enable you to work on projects that match your expertise, interests, and abilities and could lead to full-time employment.

During your IBM Tech Re-Entry apprenticeship program, you will have the opportunity to update your skills in a contemporary work environment. You will have access to the latest tools and technologies available and work alongside multi-disciplinary teams to hone your expertise and deliver on client-critical solutions. You'll be able to experience the breadth of IBM resources while developing new skills and relationships.

Re-Entry hires participate in ~6 month apprenticeships to refresh skills and prepare for transition to full time opportunities. The experience provides personalized technical learning to update and gain additional skills; earning badges and credentials along the way.

The WebSphere Migration Tools team is responsible for designing, developing, delivering, and supporting tools that enable customers to quickly and easily modernize their WebSphere Application Server applications. This includes moving from one application server to another, such as traditional WebSphere to WebSphere Liberty, upgrading Java levels such as going from Java 8 to Java 15, or moving an installation from on-premise to containers in the cloud. This position will work with all aspects of the tools including design, development, test, and support.

Responsibilities:

* Collaborate with team to deliver tools that help customers along their application modernization journey.
* Participate in all aspects of software development, from inception and design through code implementation, testing, delivery, and documentation
* Debug and fix bugs found during development, testing, and support
* Provide support to customers running our tools

In order to qualify for this apprenticeship, you must have been out of the workforce for a minimum of 12 months.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
* Bachelor's degree or better in a programming field such as Computer Science
* Experience building applications with object-oriented programming languages (preferably Java) and scripting (such as Bash)
* Strong debug skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, team oriented

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
* Exposure to agile development methodologies
* Keen troubleshooting skills or experience providing technical customer support
* Familiarity with the Java EE ecosystem
* Experience with version controls systems such as Git and build tools such as Ant, Maven, or Gradle
* Experience working with the Eclipse IDE
* Experience with CI/CD tools, e.g., Jenkins, Travis
* Experience with unit testing frameworks, e.g. Junit
* Experience with Docker/Kubernetes/OpenShift
