Job Description

As a Machinist on the Facebook Reality Labs Fabrication team you will work side-by-side with our internal teams of engineers, designers, and technicians to shape the future of augmented and virtual reality hardware by producing machined and printed prototype parts, steering customers towards quicker or more cost-effective designs/processes, and participating in a culture focused on continuous improvement.

Machinist (3D Printing) - Facebook Reality Labs Responsibilities

* Forecast, manage, and optimize our 3D printing processes

* Program, launch, and post process 3D print builds

* Starting with CAD in a variety of file formats, efficiently lay out print builds with likely functional or cosmetic features in ideal orientations for the technology being used

* Load consumables, check printer status, and launch builds at regular intervals to ensure delivery commitments are made

* Remove finished parts from machines and transfer to post processing equipment and/or personnel, being careful to protect or highlight key features

* Make updates in internal task management platform to keep requesters apprised of job status

* Engage in regular discussion with requesters to improve manufacturability of jobs submitted

* Provide timely DFM feedback (either electronically or in person)

* Highlight simple opportunities for cost/performance improvement quickly, ensuring a quick turnaround of parts at a greater cost:benefit than as originally submitted

* Frequent communication with engineers to enable quick revisions to allow parts to evolve towards design intent rather than simply to print

* Maintain machines and ensure all tools and materials needed are on hand to ensure continuous production

* Create business-driven proposals for novel print technologies to add to our portfolio, whether establishing new in-house capabilities or qualifying external vendors

Minimum Qualifications

* 4+ years' experience in a hands-on mechanical prototype-oriented trade (machining, printing, welding, or sheet metal)

* 2+ years experience in a 3D printing role, including programming builds

* Proven communication skills, should be clear and concise by default

* Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to mechanical prototyping, manufacturing, or model making

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience leading or managing a nimble additive fabrication team

* Technical background in materials science of polymers

* Strong CAD modeling skills, both mechanical and surfacing

* Proficiency with at least two 3D printing software packages, mechanical CAD
