The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies. Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes. IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.
Role Summary: Data and technologies have drastically transformed the processes of industrial manufacturers from heavily human-powered to efficiently automated and system driven. Corning is embarking on a multi-year digital transformation strategy to create innovative digital solutions for business divisions and functions and data is a core component of that initiative. We are looking for passionate, hard-working, and talented staff-level leaders to drive Corning to maximize the value of its data and become a more data-driven company. The Data Strategist will be responsible for developing and evangelizing our data strategy in order to drive business decisions and growth through cultivated data assets. The candidate will need to build a thorough understanding of business strategies and goals in order to position an enabling data strategy to help achieve these objectives. They will work closely with various departments to build and cultivate data assets that enable reuse and value. The candidate will need to be able to effectively communicate the status, value, and importance of data across the enterprise especially to executive leaders. Other duties will include developing a data literacy program that elevates the use of data across Corning. A strong background in IT, business and finance is advantageous.
Essential Responsibilities:
* Aligning business and data strategy
* Lead research, strategy creation and development of new data products or services to improve customer experience, enhance employee productivity, and drive business competitive outcomes
* Identify new kinds, types and sources of data to enable business innovation throughout the organization. Define processes for the effective, integrated introduction of new data assets.
* Collaborate with the project teams on overall data strategy for the program and/or projects, assuring overall data quality and value Creating business value with data assets
* Lead the value generation of enterprise information assets, and of the analytics used to render insights for decision making, action and help support the exploitation of strategic and tactical business opportunities
* Work with senior leaders to establish the vision for managing data as a business asset to exploit data using asset management principles to maximize the return on data assets.
* Define, manage and advance enterprise information management principles and programs for stewardship, advocacy and custodianship of data and analytics assets
* Develops, generates and analyzes data progress and/or metric reports, reporting summary of findings and remediation activities, as required, to management, project teams and sponsor
* Measure the potential qualitative and quantitative benefits of data is vital.
* Investigate about what other organizations and industries are doing with data assets
* Work with Emerging Technology Nerve Center on portfolio prioritization, funding, and value measures Empower employees to understand, make decisions and communicate with data
* Define, manage and ensure a trusted data catalog, including business context, metadata management, and reference data
* Build a data literacy curriculum to train and coach employees to data self-sufficiency
* Ensure consistency in data, promote processes to ensure data unicity between our back office, client platforms and other databases
* Enhance data quality, reliability and access Foster the creation of a data-driven culture and related competencies and across the enterprise
* Develop methods to ensure consistent application and use of analytics. Establish the adoption processes for data used for analysis, analytical applications and automated decision making.
* Ensure that business reports derived from controlled data are consistent and representative of the true state of the business.
* Influence business processes to become increasingly data-driven in their decision making and operations, and in the behaviors of its people
* Consciously address and reinforce the desire, attitude and behaviors that are needed to become a data-driven organization
* Contribute to the change management required to overcome roadblocks to data usage and develop potential strategies for overcoming with project teams and/or management
Qualifications/Requirements:
* Bachelor's Degree. Information Systems, Information Technology (IT), Finance, or related field
* MBA Preferred
* 10+ years cross-functional experience, ideally in business management, IT management or Finance
* 5+ years in developing process strategies and communications
* Experience in leading cross-functional teams and enterprise wide programs, operating and influencing effectively across the organization and within complex contexts
* Ability to work in a complex environment with the skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines, establish priorities, set objectives and achieve stated goals.
* Ability to reason logically and creatively; to learn and utilize new technologies; to clearly communicate ideas and recommendations; and, to write clear, and concise communications.
* Strong business and financial acumen, including domain-specific knowledge of the company and its business units
* Strategy and management consulting and/or Learning and development experience a plus
* Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking and consulting skills
* Strong influence and negotiation skills
* Ability to effectively drive people, process and technology change in a dynamic and complex operating environment
* Ability to explain digital concepts and technologies to business leaders, as well as business concepts to technologists
