Role Overview
The Displays Center is searching for a Principal FPGA/ASIC Designer to join our team. This position will be responsible for the development of graphics and video processing FPGAs and ASICs for display applications. Our Displays Center leads the industry with cost competitive, innovative technology that sets us apart from our competition and helps our customers make the most of their investment in our products. We are responsible for designing displays for both commercial and military avionics as well as ground vehicles.
We are looking for a strong, passionate problem-solver with an action-oriented, collaborative mindset who strives to exceed expectations. This person will be in a cross disciplinary team environment and will need to be able to thrive on tackling challenges, as the position requires the use of problem solving skills in a hands-on work environment to address problems and implement appropriate design or process changes.
The successful candidate will be expected to lead small to large sized projects on their own and mentor less experienced engineers.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Define hardware requirements and perform validation
* Develop FPGA architecture and documentation
* Design RTL source code using VHDL
* Perform synthesis, place and route, and timing closure and analysis
* Implement and integrate FPGA designs at the board and system level
* Perform verification activities (both simulation and hardware test) to satisfy the objectives of DO-254
* Participate in customer and certification authority audits to ensure adherence to customer requirements and regulatory guidelines
* Estimate, track, and report project costs and schedules
Required Qualifications:
* This position requires a Bachelor's degree in the appropriate discipline and 10 years of relevant experience of an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required.
* Experience with RTL coding in VHDL
* Experience using FPGA simulation tools
* Experience with MicroChip (Actel), Intel (Altera), and Xilinx FPGAs and associated development tools
* Experience with digital circuit architecture, design, resource tradeoffs, timing analysis, and timing closure
* Experience using FPGA simulation, synthesis and place/route tools
* Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively document and present ones work and status
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with DO-254 development and verification process
* Experience with Hardware Testbench development for in-circuit verification
* Experience with hardware configuration management and problem reporting tools
* Excellent FPGA lab integration and troubleshooting knowledge
* Familiarity with NSEU effects on volatile memory elements
* Familiarity with image generation and processing
* Familiarity with interface protocols (ARINC 661, ARINC 818, H.264/265, PCIe, SMPTE, DisplayPort, Analog Video, LVDS, etc.)
* Good computer skills with ability to learn new programs/software
