Job Description
CDM Smith Inc. is a multi-discipline engineering, architectural firm, and construction. Our firm is responsible for the design and construction of large-scale water and wastewater plant design, transit facilities, industrial facilities, office space design, facility planning and condition assessment work. In response to increased demand for BIM projects, we are growing our team enterprise support. As a BIM Trainer at CDM Smith you will have the opportunity to grow your career as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team of technical experts working on challenging projects in Environment, Industry, Commercial, Transportation, and Water.

The BIM Trainer will have the following responsibilities:
- With guidance from the Applied Technologies, Corporate Quality, and BIM Management teams, the BIM Trainer will research and develop content to support the current CDM Smith design workflow, and software package.
- Reviews current workflows and software utilization. Suggests and documents how efficiencies may be applied to most project situations. Builds the business case for adjustment before making changes to current workflow.
- Drafts standard and advanced training documentation to support proper use and continual growth of BIM software, tools, and techniques. Documentation will be managed and distributed through Microsoft SharePoint.
- Provides general TSU training, just in time project training, and other training as required for TSU staff and management. Acts as BIM trainer during the project lifecycle to bolster proper collaboration, coordination, and modeling techniques between the design team and outside subcontractors etc., as required. Engage with CCI VDC team to support training effort, as required.
- Interviews and surveys project teams on a regular basis.
- Develops KPIs and management schema to track and monitor efficiency gain.
- Updates training documents/manuals, software utilization workflows, and the collaboration environment to clearly communicate best practices, optimized execution, and ongoing integration of new tools and techniques as the company and industry evolves.
- Will train other employees to be trainers for specific disciplines or requirements. This will require the ability to manage and guide a group of people to propagate the training initiative for the company.
- Will work with TSUs Communication team to build internal and external content helping to sell our BIM capabilities and a Unit and company.
- Performs tasks such as verifies BIM model integrity, coordinates clash detection, collaborates with other disciplines, plots drawings, assembles drawing packages, prepares transmittals, file management and/or filing prints, distributes drawings, makes simple calculations, and coordinates specifications with drawings, etc.
- Supports field assignments, as required.
- Performs other duties, as required.


Minimum Qualifications


Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication skills with strict attention to detail in a coaching and / or training atmosphere.
- Demonstrated ability to be a team player and contributor to the overall team.
- Possesses an advanced working knowledge of core BIM/CADD applications.
- Ability to apply advanced BIM/CADD drafting design techniques in accordance with the firms and industry standards and codes.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office for design related tasks and discipline specific design/analysis software primarily within the BIM/CADD environment.


- High School diploma or equivalent with vocational technical training in basic CADD drafting technology and intelligent modeling.
- 6 years of relevant experience.
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.


Preferred Qualifications
- Experience preparing Process Mechanical BIM models using Plant 3D, OpenPlant, Revit, Navisworks, Dynamo, Forge, Python, BIM 360 Ecosystem, or other BIM applications.
- Familiarity with ProjectWise, Bluebeam, SharePoint, and Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
