I. Position Function:
Reporting directly to the Administrative Director of Radiology, directs and manages daily technical operations of all cross sectional divisions of the department of Radiology. This includes but not limited to CT, MRI, and Ultrasound. Supervises technical, various support and clerical staff assigned. The Cross Sectional Operations Manager will supervise the clerical staff and technologists aides. The lead technologists of the above areas will report to the Operations Manager. Will participate in the development of departmental policies and procedures and assure that modality operations are in compliance with established Medical Center and regulatory standards.
II. Job Relationships:
Reports to: Administrative Director
Supervises: Lead technologist , staff technologists, technologist aides, customer service representatives and imaging center representatives.
Works collaboratively with: Department leadership, physicians and staff.
Relationships: Patients, family, visitors, staff, physicians, vendors and service personnel.
Must be able to collaborate and effectively communicate with physicians, department staff and other health care professionals.
III. Authority:
Has the authority to implement policy and procedure changes, merit evaluations, make scheduling changes for patients and personnel.
Has the authority to recruit, coach, discipline and discharge employees in cooperation with Administrative Director and Human Resources.
Has the authority to develop and implement staff schedules to meet the needs of the modalities supervised within existing fiscal contraints.
Has the authority and responsibility for assisting in directing and supervising the activities and functions of the department.
Has the authority and responsibility for assisting in the directing and supervising of imaging quality and assuring that staff is producing images of the highest possible diagnostic quality.
Has the authority to handle employee problems and/or issues including discipline escalation.
Has the authority to order supplies.
Has the authority to develop and upon approval of Director, implement staff training schedules as needed to assure proper training for all Radiologic Technologist staff, working in the areas supervised.
Has the authority required to accomplish the objectives set forth in the department's Provision of Service.
IV. A. Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Select, develop, and evaluate technical staff in each area of responsibility in cooperation with lead positions.
Direct development and enforcement of departmental policies and procedures.
Assures compliance with regulatory agencies (JCAHO, DPH, NRC, MWRA, etc.)
Assist in the development of institution wide policies and the maintenance of records and controls for areas of responsibility.
Assures employees meet all orientation and competency standards as appropriate for position.
Conducts regularly scheduled departmental meetings.
Assists with development and justification of annual budget and maintaining positive variances.
Maintain and report statistical data regarding service volume trends.
Oversees and authorizes payroll for modalities supervised, clinical employee evaluations, and schedules.
Oversee and authorize purchasing activities within the contraints of the budget.
Communicates effectively with other hospital departments and imaging modalities.
Assists the administrative director with the preparation of reports for all areas of responsibility.
Chairs meetings and directs projects within the department.
Complete on-going performance improvement for all operational activities of the department.
Develop skills of all staff personnel.
Propose mechanisms for cost reduction in salaries and wages, supplies and other major expense areas.
Evaluate new products and equipment for use within the department. Recommend purchases and justify as appropriate.
Helps develop appropriate work schedules and daily assignments of technologists and support staff.
Understands the corporate goals and objectives and helps develop a departmental plan, in conjunction with the administrative director, complete with long and short term goals.
Assures corporate and department fiscal, operational and quality information is effectively communicated to department staff.
Demonstrates the ability to perform multiple tasks as required.
Supports and facilitates the process of providing information to the administrative director and team members.
Demonstrates proficient and economic use fo supplies, communication equipment, technical equipment and computer technologies.
Allocates resources to sustain or achieve quality services.
Promotes leadership, teamwork and professionalism within the organization by action and example.
Develops interdisciplinary relationships that foster effective planning, teamwork, mutual respect, collaboration and integration of services with other departments and physicians for coordinated provision of services and support of patient care.
Works closely with scheduling to insure departmental schedules are maximized.
Participates in multi-disciplinary Performance Improvement projects and in department Quality Improvement Program.
B. Responsibilities/Non-Essential Functions:
Helps maintains reference library in Radiology with Radiologists and technical staff.
Assists Clinical Educator in the coordination of staff CEU programs and attendance records in cooperation with quality improvement and staff education supervisor.
Performs literature and web searches and analysis to assist with staff education and improve services.
V. Reporting Requirements:
Reports to the administrative director any quality issues related to operations requiring his/her and/or the medical staff consideration and/or action.
Reports serious incidents and/or breaches in the quality of care to the administrative director.
Reports any unusual occurrences related to patients, other staff, self or equipment.
VI. Accountability:
Accountable for maintaining the confidentiality and security of all hospital related, medical staff related and patient related data and information.
Accountable for abiding by all relevant hospital and department policies and procedures.
Accountable for fiscal performance in areas of responsibility.
Accountable for quality of imaging and associated documentation in areas of responsibility.
Accountable for collection of quality reporting data that needs to be reported to the Quality and safety team of the hospital.
Accountable for identifying staff development needs in cooperation with lead staff.
Accountable for providing a safe working environment for all hospital staff.
VII. Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology
Minimum of Bachelors degree.
Minimum Experience:
Three to five years supervisory experience in a hospital radiology department, preferably at a teaching hospital.
Minimum skills/abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communciation skills to facilitate efficient and courteous communications with patients, hospital employees and vendors.
Fiscal skills sufficient to satisfactorily analyze and present information budget performance including stafing patterns.
Knowledge of computer applications sufficient to satisfactorily operationalize RIS and PACS technologies as well as digital imaging.
Excellent problem resolution skills.
Certification/Licensure:
Must have ARRT registration.
Must have licensure by State of Massachussetts.
Training:
Additional training will be provided as necessary.
Special Qualifications:
Must obtain required CEU hours to maintain state licensure and national registration.
Competency with PACS preferred.
