The Human Resources Department has an opening for a Director, Compensation. This position is located in Boise, Idaho or Arlington, Texas.
Position Purpose
Leads the strategic development, design, implementation, communication, and compliance of compensation programs to align with the Company's compensation philosophy and business objectives. This position will collaborate with cross functional teams in HR, Retail, Division to identify, develop and deliver strategic compensation programs that meet and anticipate the internal needs of the organization while monitoring external trends in the marketplace.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Develops strong partnerships and provides counsel to HR and Business Management groups on job design, job documentation, FLSA exemptions, organizational design and restructures, job leveling guides and policy interpretation on compensation questions and concerns. Facilitates positive and proactive communications, coordination, and consideration of business needs in order to achieve mutually effective outcomes in support of the business objectives. Combines internal data, stakeholder feedback and external competitive data to make decisions that impact employees and the business in a meaningful way.
* Develops salary budgets, structure changes and compensation policies and procedures that ensure the achievement of equitable and competitive employee compensation.
* Researches strategic issues and recommends changes to compensation programs/philosophy as appropriate. Keeps abreast of best practices and continually reviews current compensation processes and procedures in order to provide guidance to management on the organization's response to changing trends within the marketplace. Identify opportunities for both internal and external process improvements and recommend solutions for implementation.
* Provides direction and analysis in plan design that enhances opportunities to achieve business objectives.
* Manages salary surveys vendors and develops internal market pricing tools to ensure proper alignment of jobs to competitive market data. Ensures participation in relevant salary surveys and research that allows the company to market price, develop, and implement competitive salary structures in order to administer compensation practices, polices and guidelines.
* Manages and organizes special projects as needed. Participates in task forces and special assignments as needed.
* Ensures compensation programs comply with legal and other regulatory agencies.
* Supports executive compensation projects as needed.
Qualifications:
* BA/BS degree, preferably with emphasis in HR, Accounting, Finance or General Business
* CCP certification or course completion highly desired
* Previous retail compensation experience dealing with multi-unit locations, preferably in a publicly traded company
* 8+ year's compensation consulting
* Demonstrated subject matter expert in compensation plan development
* Experience in compensation benchmarking, fixed and variable compensation plans, total rewards programs and job evaluation is a must
* Experience with executive compensation
Skills and Background:
* Demonstrated ability to apply compensation knowledge, philosophy, best practices, and sound decision-making processes to current and proposed compensation programs.
* Collaborative leader that works to develop simple solutions based on business needs.
* Strategic thinker and demonstrated knowledge and experience of competitive compensation strategy and practices is a must including job evaluation, bonus plan design, market analysis and FLSA and related regulations.
* Creative, analytical, and results-oriented
* Demonstrated ability to draw conclusions, themes and trends from data analysis and communicate results to high level officers
* Demonstrated capacity to resolve issues in a timely manner, creatively design solutions and proactively implement strategies with a bias for flawless execution.
* Self-starter with strong critical thinking and conceptual abilities; excellent project management skills.
* Ability to thrive in a fast paced, high workload environment and effectively support and adjust to change and help others through change.
* Must maintain confidentiality, sound judgment and independent decision making in problem solving and in developing alternative strategies.
* Ability to deal with complex data in a demanding fast paced work environment. Focus on the detail and accuracy of analysis as well as the ability to see the bigger picture.
* Excellent communication skills; exhibit strong presence, verbal and written presentation skills, and ability to interact with multiple stakeholders, both inside and outside the organization.
* Strong working knowledge of MS Office with advanced Excel and Access skills.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
* Master's Degree, preferably with emphasis in HR, Accounting, Finance or General Business
* Experience with Oracle compensation modules or cloud-based HR/Comp systems.

In 1939, Joe Albertson, a former Safeway district manager, took $5,000 he saved and $7,500 he borrowed from his wife’s Aunt Bertie, and partnered with L.S. Skaggs to open his first Albertsons store on 16th and State Streets in Boise, Idaho. Joe knew the keys of running a really great store, and it was all about working hard for the customers: give them the products they want, at a fair price, with lots of tender, loving care. Joe was innovative, too. He had one of the first in-store magazine racks in the country along with a scratch bakery and fresh ice cream made in-store. He worked hard, seven days a week, on his vision to build his company, and through his inspiring work ethic and tireless
determination to run the best store, the first store thrived. Just two years later, he had opened two other stores in neighboring communities and grew the fledgling company’s sales to over $1 million by the end of 1941.
