POSITION SUMMARY:
The Educational Assistant assists in the education of students and administration of policies and procedures relating to all phases of education in accordance with current state and federal special education standards.
In addition, the Educational Assistant position assists the classroom teacher in defining and implementing education goals for an assigned student (1:1) as a member of the educational team. This position provides continuous individualized tailored student care, observation, interaction, documentation, and role modeling to the assigned student. The Educational Assistant has the ability on a consistent basis to direct student needs (as related to on the student's IEP), manage behaviors by utilizing various therapeutic interventions and provide appropriate documentation. This position works under the direct supervision of the School Supervisor. Responsible for personal and Corporate Service Excellence standards.
Qualifications
Education:
* High school diploma or its equivalent required. Bachelor's Degree in Education, Psychology, or Social Services preferred.
Experience:
* Previous work experience in education or behavioral health setting preferred. Experience with, knowledge of, or training in crisis prevention preferred.
Licensure:
* Must maintain a valid Washington State driver's license.
Additional Requirements:
* Successful completion and maintenance of CPR certification, First Aid certification, verbal de-escalation, and Handle With Care (HWC) training.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
* Knowledge of current professional education practice and techniques applicable to the care of severely behaviorally disabled students.
* Knowledge of developmental stages.
* Ability to organize and carry out responsibilities efficiently.
* The ability to work effectively under pressure and in a fast paced environment.
* Ability to speak and write in a clear, concise and articulate manner.
* Ability to adhere to safety, confidentiality, and security policies.
* Knowledge of all code procedures
* Ability to react calmly and effectively in an emergency situation.

* Demonstrates ability to function independently.
* Ability to communicate effectively with staff, school districts, families, and any other people involved in supporting the student.
* Ability to problem solve, utilizing good judgment.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SPECIAL DEMANDS:
* Ability to stand sit or walk up to six hours, sit for up to two hours.
* Ability to move frequently is required in the delivery of student care.
* Visual acuity is needed for accurate reading of student charts and for demonstrating activities or assisting students in activities.
* Ability to spend 20% of the work day outdoors in temperatures varying from 30-100F and 80% of the work day indoors in temperatures varying from 60-85F.
* Ability to occasionally push/pull wheeled carts from 200 lbs. (i.e., lunch cart).
* Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 10 lbs. (i.e. juices, charts, student's supplies) and occasionally lift and carry up to 100 lbs. (a student).
* Ability to frequently reach above, at or below shoulder height (obtain supplies, reach in cabinets, use refrigerator), kneel, bend, stoop, turn, and twist.
* Ability to frequently handle, through gross and fine manipulations, simple grasping, twisting and fingering of small objects (telephone buttons, thermometers with both hands).
* Ability to operate a van in a safe manner.
* Ability to see well enough to read written material and the ability to discern a variety of odors.
* Ability to occasionally handle hazardous/infectious waste.
* Ability to work in an environment where the noise level is frequently high; where chemicals are frequently used for cleaning; where mechanical and electrical hazards may be occasionally present; and where dust, mist and steam are frequently generated in housekeeping tasks.
* Ability to work at a rapid pace and tolerate a variety of repetitive tasks.
