JOB DESCRIPTION:
Our location in Abbott Park, IL currently has an opportunity for a Principal Environmental Specialist
Broad based technical CO2, Water and Waste environmental subject matter expert (SME). Manage and implement environmental programs to ensure regulatory compliance globally, monitor and analyze trending and emerging issues to adhere to changing regulations and stakeholder expectations. Primary focus will be on managing carbon emissions in the supply chain as well as broader supply chain engagements to include water risks and waste management. Liaison between environmental programs and procurement to develop and implement actions to improve CO2, water and waste management sustainability performance in the supply chain.
WHAT YOULL DO
Responsible for the identification, development and implementation of projects that will improve Abbott environmental sustainability performance within the supply chain to meet the long-term needs of the Corporation.
* Scope 3 emissions reduction strategy development and implementation
* Calculate Scope 3 emissions, identify opportunity and highlight progress
* Partner with procurement on supplier sustainability engagements (CO2, Scope 3, Water and Waste)
* SME on environmental risk assessment across the value chain
* Environmental Global Standards and SME for air emissions, including process air and CO2e
* Stakeholder and Regulatory trends and expectations (Scope 3 Carbon emissions) advisory and reporting
* Accountable for identifying opportunities to improve Abbott CO2, Water and Waste performance with focus on the supply chain, to meet Abbott goals and targets.
* Understand and control financial implications of spend related to CO2, Water and Waste management.
* Formulate, promote and execute strategic plans and initiatives to implement CO2, Water and Waste strategies.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, YOULL BRING
A technical undergraduate degree required, masters or advanced degree preferred. (Engineering, Environmental Management, Science).
Should be skilled in areas of CO2, water and waste management with experience in supply chain and manufacturing highly preferred. Strong leadership and strategic planning skills. A total of ten years of accumulative experience are required as a minimum.
In addition, this position requires a person who demonstrates the following competencies:
* Knowledgeable of broad trends related to CO2, Water, Waste and environmental affairs.
* Familiar with political and social dimensions of environmental questions being posed to governments, corporations and the public.
* Familiar with guidelines and programs such as AWS, ISO 50001, LEED, Energy Star, etc.
* Consistently demonstrated competency with financial control systems and familiar with project accounting.
* Understanding of procurement management & contracting processes.
* Excellent communications skills, both written and oral.
