POSITION SUMMARY:
Individual will drive newness and innovation in brand fabric. Individual must have extensive R&D and product development background bringing forth new ideas keeping within brand aesthetic and cost structure. Individual will source seasonal design request with appropriate vendors and offer creative solutions if the request is outside of brands sourcing and pricing strategy. Individual will be strategic and proactive in sourcing fabrics keeping in mind current company initiatives.
The principle purpose is to lead in globally sourcing and developing the appropriate fabrics with the best aesthetic at the right cost using a strategic go forward filter to fulfill the brands needs and strategic goals while ensuring best in quality.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE JOB:
* Partner and coordinate all phases of knit fabric research and development with an emphasis on forward aesthetic and strategic thinking to determine direction for future seasons while driving the business forward
* Working knowledge and understanding of Production and product development with the ability to influence Design in support of Production
* Manage the research and development of global fabrics that meet design aesthetic needs based on Brands overall concepts and cost structure as it relates to our Brand Strategy
* Meet with Brands key global fabric suppliers to gain clear understanding of future developments and competitive sourcing of fabrics
* Monitor calendar to ensure all development dates are adhered to and that follow through is achieved
* Ensure all fabrics meet our QC requirements within appropriate timelines ensuring on time booking
* Attend quarterly meetings with cross functional partners ensuring Brands needs are met
* Completing and understanding seasonal analytics for strategic go forward plans. IE fabric counts to development ratios, strategic mill lists are adhered to
* Communicate and elevate potential issues to leadership with potential solves
* Translate aesthetic into clear, executable direction for vendors and mills ensuring smooth handoff and seamless execution of product
* Maintain a fabric resource library to support seasonal inspiration as well as archive Heritage Brands production development fabric. Participate in identifying potential key item fabrications for upcoming seasons
* Oversee fabric approval with Design
* Ability to see big picture and prioritize concerns/issues
* Utilize technical expertise to realistically translate designs intent
* Drive product category to balance quality and cost of fabrics
* Review and evaluate with Design duplicative fabrics and where we can consolidate fabrics on a seasonal basis
* Regularly shop stores and benchmark brands to better understand where they are and where they are going and their relativity to Heritage Brands business
* Maintains seasonal fabric binders for easy use
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
* 6+ years of R&D experience
EDUCATION:
* Bachelors or Advanced Degree; Preferred textile degree or related fashion degree
SKILLS:
* 3-5 years of management experience preferred
* Technical knowledge of fabric and garment construction
* Strong experience with wovens and knits
* Expert understanding of global textile knowledge
* Excellent management and organizational skills
* Strong strategic and analytical skills
* Ability to work closely and partner effectively with design, vendors, mills and global production
* Awareness of potential testing and/or quality issues
* Ability to negotiate and build consensus across multiple functions
