We are responsible for developing the short-term and long-term Compensation vision and strategy for the company, resulting in incentives that appropriately empower our teams to work for success. Collaboration with senior management and connecting to broader corporate strategies is crucial. We design and implement strategically-focused compensation programs for all levels in the company. The new leader we're seeking serves as Compensation COE senior advisor and people leader, and is seen as a specialist to our shared operations professionals, HR professionals, and business clients. Accountability for leading cross-functional project teams to evaluate and improve compensation plans and processes is a core expectation. We will want to see the new leader research and use knowledge of emerging and external compensation trends to proactively recommend changes.
Duties and responsibilities
Lead and guide interdepartmental project teams, each with differing interests, to implement new compensation plans or changes to existing plans.
Responsible for setting scope, schedule and budget for assigned projects.
Partner with department leadership to establish and revise the company's compensation strategy for all employees, including executive and special compensation plans.
Researches, analyzes, recommends, designs and develops new compensation programs or processes or modifications to existing programs/processes.
Serve as a specialist to department leadership and senior management on compensation plan design.
Partners with Law, Controllers, Compliance, etc. on the analysis, interpretation and recommendation of legal, regulatory, and finance/accounting provisions that impact the delivery of compensation programs within Northwestern Mutual.
Develops and provides the data, analysis and communications vital to make informed decisions and explain change to the organization.
Maintains a strong awareness of trends and offerings in the external environment in order to discover opportunities for improvement and build stronger standards for the company.
Education, experiences and behaviors we believe are important:
* Bachelor's in Business, Accounting, Finance, Math or a related field, or combination of education and experience. Masters degree in business or related field is preferred.
* CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) strongly preferred.
* 10+ years experience with building strategy for Compensation, including design and cost.
* Strength in leading project teams to complete tasks, keeping them on schedule and within budget.
* Ability to influence without direct authority and facilitate compromise.
* Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
This job is not covered by the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement.
