Our campus is home to 30 pediatric sub-specialties led by a team of 400+ nurses and physicians. We provide specialized care in various state-of-the-art settings, including an 81-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with private family-centered rooms, an Advanced Center for Pediatric Surgery handling nearly 4,000 cases each year, and one of the few pediatric oncology programs in the area.
Were also Central Floridas only pediatric provider for bone marrow transplant, kidney transplant, Gamma Knife services, trilogy radiation and Level III epilepsy care. But perhaps most exciting of all, is that this is the firstand onlyhospital to bear the Disney name.
Work Hours/Shift: Full Time Days
You Will Be Responsible For:

Education Services
* Provides pediatric diabetes instruction in group and individual sessions, in accordance with patient education standards set by the American Diabetes Association and departmental policy. Provides education in all content areas except insulin administration, insulin pump, or continuous glucose monitoring. Incorporates special needs considerations when applicable.
Quality Improvement
* Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Demonstrates accurate documentation and monitoring of activities as needed. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by department.
Advocacy
* Serves as an advocate for care with community agencies including:
* School systems
* Pharmacies
* Insurance companies
* Social service/child protection agencies
* Employers
Research
* Educates patient/family about current areas of research both within and outside the AdventHealth Endocrine Centers.
Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration
* Collaborates with other team members to address patient and family needs
* Participates in team meetings for education and discussion of patient care issues.
Professional/Educational Development
* Complies with the American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Program requirements for continuing education until CDE credential is obtained.
* Seeks professional growth opportunities to advance care and knowledge related to diabetes
Community
* Participates in community activities as requested for children and families with diabetes including but not limited to:
* Presentation of educational lectures to children, parents, healthcare professionals and the community in general
Qualifications - External
What You Will Need:
Required:
* Knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Power Point. Able to work with children of various ages and various backgrounds.
* Current, valid State of Florida license as a Dietitian
* Registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration
* Advanced knowledge of pediatric diabetes concepts and skills including insulin pump therapy concepts as related to food intake;
* Ability to provide teaching in all aspects of diabetes nutrition.
* Able to communicate effectively and organize daily activities.
Preferred:
* 1-3 years of experience in field
* 1-year experience in diabetes specialty
* Masters degree in Dietetics
* Certification with the National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators as Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE)
