You Will Be Responsible For:

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensures 24/7 accountability in the provision of support services essential to patient care for the inpatient rehabilitation hospital unit. Manages department in accordance with state and federal law.

Ensures regulatory and accreditation standards through collaboration with medical director and operations leadership team to provide up to date information on regulatory and accreditation standards, and supervises development of action plans to maintain an atmosphere of regulatory readiness at all times.

Develops service goals and objectives to support the institutional values and goals, with input from nurse managers and staff.

Ensures that a safe and caring environment is maintained for patients that is conducive to positive health teaching, and maintenance; patient and family expectations of care; develops mechanism to assess same.

Analyzes findings from patient satisfaction survey to establish service based customer services agenda and ensures that unit based agendas are developed with input from the nursing management and the staff.

Analyzes findings from staff satisfaction survey to establish a service based recruitment and retention agenda and insures that unit based agendas are developed with input from the nursing management and the staff.

Ensures that effective plans for delivery of nursing care are developed within the service line.

Ensures the resolution of patient and family concerns or complaints in a timely fashion.

Monitors and manages day-to-day operations to meet financial performance objective, forecasted revenues and expenses for the upcoming budgeting period.

Administers, directs, and coordinates the operation including marketing, admissions, PPS/PI, and case management/social work. Ensures fiscal efficacy through reimbursement management inclusive of appeal activity, coding practices, and monitoring payor contracting.

Reviews, evaluates, and monitors rehab hospitals financial performance, budgetary requirements, charge and billing compliance and efficiency.

Takes actions to ensure budgetary and operational compliance in collaboration with finance administration.

Conducts monthly meetings with the nursing management to address equipment, scheduling, goals and objectives, performance metrics and improvement activities, and any staff concerns.

Attends and participates on interdisciplinary teams and committees -- actively participates on Provision of Care, Education Council, Clinical Standards Committee, TJC Steering Committee, Patient & Family Education Committee and other committees or collaborates, as assigned.

Completes behavioral-based interviewing for all new hires.

Facilitates the development of trusting relationships and partnerships with physicians, payers, patients , peers and staff, including a close working relationship with medical directors that includes them in program and policy decisions.

Participates as a member of the Nurse Executive Council and Nurse Practice Council and works collaboratively with nursing leadership to establish, evaluate, improve and maintain high quality nursing care standards across the organization.

Collaborates on setting goals for key metrics and indicators that are key to operational processes, growth, and performance priorities. Ensures tracking & reporting mechanisms are effective. Analyzes performance; communicates effectively with partners regarding the operational and financial key indicators for timely correction/improvement and recognition of success.

Develops and maintains policies in step with changing practice needs. Ensures policies and procedures are incorporated into daily unit activities. Ensures that development initiatives for employees follow the hospital policies and practices.

Hires, educates, mentors, and evaluates nursing management .

Works with human resources and nursing management to counsel, discipline and terminate staff as needed.

Promotes a level of professionalism on the unit, which motivates academic pursuit and continuing education on the part of the staff by establishing and meeting service based professional certification goals.

Demonstrates self-development and keeps current on a variety of clinical management and health care topics by participation on a national and local level in professional associations and promotion of national agenda initiatives.

Promotes empowerment of the nursing management and staff by utilizing collaborative approaches and encouraging new ideas.

Functions as a leader of the healthcare team and various interdisciplinary committees to improve patient care and meet patient needs.

Promotes collegial relationships based on mutual respect and support.

Demonstrates competency in leadership skills, work and service, and holds self and other leaders accountable to the highest standards.

Performs related duties, as required.

Qualifications
What You Will Need:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

5 years experience in a leadership role managing or directing inpatient rehab in an acute care setting.

Incumbent must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that she/he can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

She/he must have working knowledge of budgets and healthcare finance and leadership capabilities.

One needs the ability to work a varied schedule, to include night and weekend hours, with visibility to all shifts.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

7 years inpatient rehab experience in a healthcare setting.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Bachelor's Degree in business administration, healthcare administration, or health related field.

A minimum of five years clinical experience in acute rehab services with progressive management/administrative experience in an interdisciplinary setting.

Knowledge of regulatory requirements and implication for reimbursement for Rehab services.

Demonstrated leadership skills and professional affiliations.

Demonstrated knowledge of the behaviors, evelopmental needs, physical needs, emotional needs and comfort of the rehabilitation patient population.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

Masters degree in an allied health field, hospital administration or business administration

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

Current licensure in Physical Therapy in Florida

BLS Certification (American Heart Association)

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:

Current certification in area of speciality

Job Summary:

The Director of Acute Rehab Unit is responsible for working with the medical director, interdisciplinary management/staff and chief nursing officer to maintain program excellence and accreditation through the development of a viable interdisciplinary team/partnership. The director is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the inpatient rehabilitation hospital and oversees rehabilitation nursing service, therapy services, support services and business development. The Director is responsible for the operations of the business unit within the healthcare facility, directs staff involved in the diagnosis and care of patients, relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, coordinate and facilitate effective communication among various service line providers.

The incumbent serves as an essential link between senior management and the overall rehabilitation hospital, promoting and facilitating effective communication. The position is accountable for strategic planning, business development, fiscal management, securing of resources towards the effective operational delivery of care, and achieving organizational goals and objectives. She/he directs the development of short-term and long-term objectives, develops business plans projecting volume, case mix, length of stay, fiscal reimbursement, payor mix, and margin for these services. She/he analyzes financial and outcome data, identifies strategies for improving performance, ensures opportunities for program development, and seeks input from stakeholders on needs for services and/or development of product line. Additional responsibilities include staying current with industry developments, educating the leadership team on the business implications, and guiding operational changes in practice. She/he collaborates with clinical and nursing leadership to ensure best practice and optimum outcomes, while running efficient operations. She/he administers, directs, and coordinates the interdisciplinary processes that are the base for operations for the inpatient rehab facility and includes marketing, admissions, PPS/PI, and case management/social work. She/he ensures fiscal efficacy through reimbursement management inclusive of appeal activity, coding practices, and monitoring payor contracting. The Director of Acute Rehab Unit serves as a primary liaison with the medical staff pertinent to strategic planning, business development, admitting protocols, utilization review, fiscal management, patient satisfaction, physician satisfaction, and outcomes.

The Director of Acute Rehab Unit ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations as well as all policies and procedures set forth by the Hospital and Medical Staff and supporting hospital Joint Commission accreditation and licensure with all accrediting bodies including, those required by federal, state, and CARF.

She/he is responsible for creating an environment and culture that enables the management team to fulfill its mission by meeting or exceeding set goals, conveying the mission & vision to staff, holding staff accountable for their performance, rewarding success, motivating staff to improve performance and being responsible for the measurement, assessment and continuous performance improvement.
