Job Description

Job Title: Associate Scientist

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Understanding of sample preparation microfluidics on the GeneXpert platform.
* Understanding of real time PCR and RT-PCR applications on the GeneXpert platform.
* Perform analytical studies to verify GeneXpert assay performance based on the ability to meet design input requirements.
* Handle clinical samples and perform microbiology work of BSL-1 and BSL-2 organisms.
* Analyze data using statistical tools such as Microsoft Excel or MiniTab.
* Maintain detailed experimental records.
* Demonstrated ability to apply analytical problem-solving skills to reagent and system integration issues to identify critical performance factors.
* Demonstrated ability to apply analytical problem-solving skills to processes to identify critical performance factors.
* Participate and present data at internal technical meetings and prepare weekly progress reports, act as a resource for junior scientific colleagues.
* Manage time efficiently while promoting and sustaining a safe work environment.
* Highly organized with the ability to adapt and thrive in an atmosphere of shifting demands and priorities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education or Experience (in years):

* Bachelors degree in field with 2+ years of related work experience OR
* Masters degree in field with 0-2 years of related work experience

Qualifications:

* Experience with real-time PCR or RT-PCR.
* Experience performing nucleic acid extraction/purification.
* Knowledge in handling clinical specimens and be able to work in a BSL-2 environment.
* Knowledge of biological and chemical safety.
* Ability to work in a clean room environment.
* Excellent documentation and communications skills.
* Proficiency with standard Microsoft computer programs.
* Experience with design of experiments (DOE) methods desirable.
* Ability to ask questions and check for clarity and understanding. Solves straightforward problems.
* Knowledge of principles of quality control and quality assurance.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Medical device and/or in vitro Diagnostic product launch experience is highly preferred.
* Experience working with microorganisms involved in infectious diseases.
* Familiarity with product development/design control.

Physical requirements/abilities:

* Ability to work in a research laboratory environment which includes periods of bench-work and working in a bio-safety cabinet
