Our Company's Exploratory Science Center in Cambridge provides a unique experience to contribute to our Company's drug discovery efforts at one of the earliest stages of the process. Co-op students will be part of a highly collaborative and innovative scientific culture with the ultimate goal of learning new biology, chemistry, and technology that drives therapeutic development. Students will be exposed to software engineering, immunology, microbiology, chemical biology, synthetic chemistry, and bioactive discovery both within the Exploratory Science Center and other sites across the country. With access to our Company's proven global Research & Development (R&D) organization, youll have the opportunity to collaborate with talented and dedicated colleagues while developing and expanding your career.
This co-op position will involve computational analysis of data from a longitudinal multi-omics study. The student will work in conjunction with a team of computational and experimental biologists to process both metagenomic and host-omic data from study participants and consider the relationship between these data and clinical response variables. The student will have the opportunity to develop and utilize code pipelines as well as to work with biological data and analytical tools.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this will be a fully virtual co-op.
Required Education and Experience:
* Candidates must be a currently enrolled undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior student pursuing a bachelors degree in computational biology, microbiology, or a related field, OR a currently enrolled graduate student pursuing a masters degree or PhD in computational biology, microbiology, or a related field.
* Candidates must be available to work full-time for up to (6) months beginning in July 2021.
* Candidates must have completed at least (2) years of studies toward bachelors degree by July 2021.
* Candidates should be enrolled in a co-op program through their college or university.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
* Candidates should have a strong interest in applying computational techniques to biological data and be driven to learn new skills
* Candidates should have experience writing code in R, Python or similar programming languages
* Candidates should have familiarity with bioinformatics techniques and/or experience with analysis of biological data sets
* Candidates should have familiarity with molecular biology and/or microbiology
* Candidates should have strong collaboration and communication skills
