At GDIT, we put our people first. As a Serologist in support of the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) Infectious Disease Field Surveillance and Laboratory Research Services. As the Navy hub for the Armed Forces Health Surveillance Center the NHRC Operational Infectious Diseases Directorate conducts on-going laboratory-based surveillance of US military populations in unique environments to quantify and study the etiology of infectious illnesses.
In this role, a typical day will include:
Performs pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phase testing of all complexities as defined by Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act/Amendment (CLIA) to include specialized tests and analysis in one or more areas of clinical laboratory such as: Hematology, Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, Urinalysis, Immunohematology, Serology, Parasitology and chemical and morphological examinations to obtain data for use in diagnosis and recording laboratory test results.
Analysis of test results are performed on the population serviced (e.g., neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric clients).
Performs and reports test results for all clinical laboratory procedures as assigned, both automated and manual, in the clinical laboratory department, without immediate review by the director, consultant, or supervisory team.
Demonstrates proficiency, competency and understanding of fundamental principles of clinical laboratory procedures with minimal amount of supervision.
Monitors and is accountable for test data, quality control, quality assurance, preventive maintenance, proficiency testing and all operations related to laboratory testing procedures.
Notifies Supervisory team of any irregularities of factors, which may influence test results.
Maintains overall safety (including chemical and biological) of the department in accordance with established safety, infection control and procedure protocols.
Serve as principal investigator (PI) for research protocols.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in a major in biology, microbiology or another biological or physical science
3 + years specialized laboratory experience including working knowledge of lab procedures, techniques and testing related to forensic and/or clinical serology.
Experience following laboratory-specific standard operation procedures (SOP) as well as the use and maintaining of key laboratory equipment/machines
Accurately record all experimental procedures and results while maintaining experimental procedures and results.
Experience analyzing and reporting test results for assigned clinical laboratory procedures as assigned, both automated and manual with minimal supervision.
Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a favorable NACLC T3 security clearance
