Job Description

As a member of our Data Privacy team, youll help us build data infrastructure that is privacy-by-design and retrofit existing tools to privacy best practices. This role focuses on clickstream and transactional data collected in our data lake and used in machine learning and big data applications. Your work will enable other engineers to write custom data pipelines that power data science and product development while respecting users privacy.

We are a new team designing and implementing improvements to data privacy controls in GCS and BigQuery. This means improving tools to more flexibly tag and track personal information with minimum necessary impact on engineers who use that data, as well as devising more granular access control and data retention strategies.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

* Enthusiasm and patience for working with other teams

* Interest in engineering approaches to data privacy

* 5+ years of experience with some of the following: Java, Scala, and Python, Kafka, Kafka Streams, Kubernetes, Avro, Protobuf, Airflow, and GCP services like Dataproc, Dataflow, and BigQuery or AWS equivalents.

Preferred qualifications

* Previous experience with privacy implementations, e.g. personal information tracking, data anonymization or encryption, data retention, and internal access control strategies.

* Ability to scope ambiguity and help managers translate fuzzy or fast-moving requirements into feasible and well-sequenced solutions.

* Ability to communicate across disciplines (e.g. engineering, legal, policy)
