What youll achieve

This technology team works with other CTO teams, Product teams and the Strategy team to incubate new ideas and create a technology vision for Dells Storage and Data Protection products. This teams thought leadership is critical for Dells future success. As the Technical Staff Engineering Technologist will work closely with the Pathfinding Team Sr. Director, Value Stacks Software CTO and staff, peers in other CTO teams and Storage Product teams as a partner and consultant to drive the research, incubation, positioning and adoption of upcoming Technology, Architecture and Innovation necessary to craft Dells next-generation storage and data protection products to meet the demands of a changing world. You will:

Key Responsibilities

* Serve as a strategist and architect for technologies as they apply to Dells Storage and Data Protection portfolio
* Identify and develop differentiation opportunities, provide technical information and make recommendations to CTO and Product Team executives
* Explore and understand trends with senior leadership to develop the strategic direction for technology initiatives
* Provide organization-wide expertise and leadership in the design and development of next generation initiatives
* Drive internal and external alignment of the strategy
* Takes a leading role in strategic technical forums and meetings on a regular and consistent schedule
* Generate IP including multiple invention disclosures per year and patent filings
* Writes technical papers (e.g., white papers) that clearly articulate industry and company trends in technology and solutions
* Represent the company by presenting in public forums, contributing to technical publications, and leading in strategic industry forums
* Develop long-term technical relationships 3rd parties and partners for the core technology or solutions. The relationships should create a technical interface, driving those requirements into next generation offerings
* Provide mentoring and leadership in the Dell technical community
* Assist product teams as required when working tactical/time-to-market development issues

Essential Requirements:

Expert level of knowledge or capability in many of the following areas:

* Knowledge of appropriate technologies and competitor's offerings
* Understanding of Dells long-term business goals and objectives
* Understanding of modern software development processes including test-driven development, continuous integration, continuous testing and agile development
* Familiarity with VMware, Docker, Kubernetes
* Infrastructure software design and development, abstractions, programmability, protocols and scaling. Experience in solution development and design

Skill Requirements:

* 15+ years of related experience in a professional role with a Bachelors degree; or 12+ years and a Masters degree; or a PhD with 8+ years experience; or equivalent experience
* Product technology and system level integration experience
* Engineering methods in a field of specialty experience
* Experience designing and implementing Enterprise and Mid-range storage, secondary storage and/or Data Protection software
* Ability to interface effectively with 3rd parties and partners to ensure they are doing research and providing information on technology that has value to Dell, instigating and coordination these efforts as necessary

Preferred Skills:

* Ability to conduct presentations to peers, cross- functional teams and director level of leadership
* Ability to mentor and lead peers within the technical community
