Job Purpose:
The purpose of this job is to safely layout, fit-up, and weld in all position according to company drawings, specifications and workmanship standards.
Job duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
* Hand weld all plain and alloy steel work in all positions. Must have experience working with heavy structural steel.
* Complete set up work on major alignments and clearances which are preset by facilities and materials.
* Follow documented procedures, standard work, routings, and blueprints to perform safe and defect free operations.
* Use of jib or overhead crane to manually position work pieces.
* May grind and dress fabricated pieces and weldments and clean off weld spatter.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
* Three (3) to five (5) years of welding experience, preferably FCAW on heavy plate.
* Minimum of one (1) year of experience in production environment.
* Must pass a minimum of three (3) welder qualification weld tests using FCAW large diameter wire in many positions.
Experience welding with:
* Heavy plate experience with 1 or greater.
* 3/32 flux core wire (1/16 or 0.052 experience is acceptable).
* Back gouging, multi pass welding.
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
* Ability to read blueprints.
* Ability to work well individually and in a team environment.
* Ability to work overtime to support production demands.
Additional Information:
This position is located at the Caterpillar manufacturing facility located in South Milwaukee, WI and is part of Caterpillar's Surface Mining & Technology Division. This 2nd shift position starts at $25.90 plus shift premium of $0.70. It also includes immediate benefits, such as medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as a matching Tax-Deferred Savings Plan. No relocation assistance is available.
