As a Business Resource Manager at Caterpillar you will guide the accounting, financial reporting, and business analysis of a unit with multiple product lines or facilities while supporting the strategy, demand management, pricing, decision support, and control environment. Key results are the optimization of short and long-term profitability and value creation, ensuring an effective control environment is in place and the achievement of other financial and non-financial objectives.

Job Duties:
Reporting to the Business Resource Manager are managers/supervisors/staff responsible for most or all of the following: Strategy and Planning, Demand Management, Pricing, Accounting and Financial Reporting, Business Analysis, Order Fulfillment, and Business Support and Decision Support. May also include Information Services and 6 Sigma. Generally, the unit would have design control of the manufacturing process. The incumbent may provide guidance to NPI teams on design improvements, proper sourcing, manufacturing process and price levels needed to remain competitive.
Final approval for functional business issues may be held by the incumbents manager.
Guides the units annual business plan, monthly rolling business management, long term forecast associated with EOR/SRC (Executive Office Review/Strategic Review Conference), volume flexibility planning, and incentive compensation plans. Responsible for the units monthly accounting and financial reporting. Analyzes and critiques information for conformance with US and local GAAP, corporate guidelines and reasonability levels. Information is presented to the Executive Office.
Guides the Business Analysis support for the unit. Key elements of the business analysis role are the establishment of target costs, cost monitoring, new product introduction analysis, value chain analysis, investment analysis, and financial leadership on mergers and acquisitions. In all aspects of business analysis, both an enterprise and accountable perspective is utilized. Results are used to guide corporate decision-making as reviewed by the Vice President and Executive Office.
Guides the strategy planning process for the unit. This includes long-term strategic development, quarterly strategic assessments and short term tactical planning to ensure growth and financial success of the business unit.
Provides leadership and guidance on the Business Risk Management governance process and is responsible for ensuring a strong and effective internal control environment is in place and adequately documented and tested. In addition, has responsibility for leading and ensuring the units compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley.
May guide the Demand Management and Pricing function for the unit. May coordinate the ordering/scheduling and develop the pricing strategy and annual price plan for product. May develop pricing analysis and evaluate business scenarios of various pricing strategies including predictions of competitive reactions. May work with product groups and marketing companies to review plans that establish prices on a worldwide basis.
Guides the 6 Sigma financial justification for the unit including the direct sponsorship of 6 Sigma projects.
Business Resource Managers responsibilities could also include guiding information services infrastructure, strategy and execution for the unit. Could lead the units Strategic & Operation Planning (S&OP) process, order fulfillment and Class A improvement for the division.
Basic Requirements:
* 4 year degree in accounting or certification (CPA/CMA) requiring several years of full-time study after a college degree
* 9 - 12 or more years of progressively responsible job-related experience
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
* Strong background in financial accounting, reporting and analysis, cost accounting, and budget development
* Knowledge of the Caterpillar organization, its products, policies and procedures
* Strong analytical skills to perform detailed financial analysis and prepare strategic plans
* Credentialed expertise (CPA or CMA)
* Solid practical experience involving technical accounting and reporting issues
* Excellent interpersonal skills in order to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific action.
