Enterprise Strategy:
The Enterprise Strategy Division consists of key enterprise functions including Strategy, Venture Capital (VC) and others. The division leads strategy formulation for Caterpillars Executive Office and business units, as a trusted internal advisor, delivering high impact project work, besides supporting the companys innovation and venture capital investments - globally.
Position Summary:
As a part of the Enterprise Strategy group, the Senior Strategy Manager (internally labeled Strategy Manager) will support the development and internal alignment of enterprise and business strategies, covering a variety of topics from technology strategies, competitive response, growth, finance, mergers & acquisitions (M&A), venture capital, and enterprise initiatives. Given the global and diverse nature of Caterpillars business, this role will tackle some of most challenging strategic issues and opportunities facing Caterpillar and receive significant executive leadership exposure along the way.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
* Lead teams in identifying and delivering actionable insights and recommendations on global, cross-functional strategic projects to enterprise and business unit executives; or independently identify and deliver insights and recommendations on the aforesaid topics with a high level of quality and synthesis
* Provide leadership in analyzing quantitative and qualitative data with a structured approach, identify and synthesize insights, and communicate strategic recommendations across several areas, including technology, finance, growth, M&A, VC, customer segmentation, and digital; or independently conduct analysis with a high level of quality and synthesis
* Develop strategic scenarios based on customer trends, industry disruptions, competitive actions, current strategies, and internal capabilities, and present to executive teams for deliberation and high-quality resolution
* Exhibit thought leadership and hypothesis focus in identifying problem statements, structured methodologies, and storylines for projects. Support strategy directors and senior management by providing thought leadership on strategic issues, options and opportunities, and positively influence outcomes
* Build relationships and discern personal/organizational sensitivities to develop good working partnerships with key leaders. Be able to effectively navigate a large organization through a mix of credibility and low self-orientation
* Collaborate with cross-functional team members at various levels of seniority. Show executive presence and top down communication when presenting to senior leaders
* Possess strong verbal and written presentation abilities including story-telling, to communicate complex strategic topics in easy to understand ways
* Work on unstructured, complex issues, showing expertise in breaking them down to manageable phases, organizing teams, and driving towards deliverables and recommendations. Exhibits extreme tolerance for ambiguity and an entrepreneurial mindset
* Travel as needed both domestically and occasionally internationally (~20%)
Basic Qualifications:
* This position requires a bachelors degree, preferably in business administration, economics, finance, science, engineering or mathematics
* Minimum 6+ years of overall professional experience
* Minimum 3+ years in corporate business strategy related role with generalist experience
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
* Advanced degree (i.e. Master, Ph.D)
* Management consulting experience in a reputed firm
* Managerial experience in corporate strategy
* Interpersonal skills, growth mindset, self-motivated, effective communicator, responsive, and the ability to handle ambiguity
* High promotability to senior positions given the skills-growth investments that will be made into this role, plus executive leadership exposure
